Before the days of mass media and drug testing when players ran wild. Did this really happen? Who was it?

Have heard it used as an example numerous times. Supposedly happened in the 60's-70's

Great stuff.

Saw the movie 'Everybody Wants Some!!' and it reminded me of athlete shenanigans of years past. Highly recomend.

Sounds like Arthur Cantrell. Tailback at LSU in the late 60's early 70's.

Jose Vargas (not a football player) kicked a guy (not a cop) through a store front window supposedly.

He wasn't guilty of throwing a cop through a window, but he was guilty of putting something where it wasn't supposed to be. (allegedly, of course....)

Couldn't be any of our quarterbacks the last couple years... They have trouble with windows.

Never heard this story. But as a kid he was my favorite player. I know he was a bad son bitch.

Got to meet him by chance 10 years ago or so. He liked to broke my hand just from a hand shake

Cantrell has been voted a near unanimous "meanest LSU football player ever" many times. A friend was a Sheriff's deputy, only 4 mths into his service, and was stationed by the old Bengal lounge sub station. They got a call, mid afternoon, that Cantrell was pounding on & trying to turn over a pin ball machine...they paid off back then. My friend turned to 5 other deputies to see who would take the call & 4 refused. The other, somewhat new as well, went with my friend & as they entered the bar, Cantrell turned around & saw them standing there, 2 fully armed sheriff's deputies. And my friend was close to 300 lbs. As they started slowly walking towards Cantrell, he picked up the machine, started swinging it around & half trotted towards them. They both backed out and called for back up. Cantrell left by a back door before help arrived. So, this sounds exactly like something Cantrell would have done.

Didn't Eric Hill take on some cops one night at the Bengal?

Piggy Barnes 330# threw Apple Saunders 310# out of a window in the Pentagon when those were the athletic dorms in the 40s. Saunders was the center and Barnes was an OG. When those guys spoke up in those days people listened. Barnes was an All Pro Guard for the Eagles for a number of years. Someone told me he won the NCAA wrestling title and Olympic Wrestling Title in his weight because no one would fight him after his first few matches. Nobody wanted to get hurt.

The Arthur Cantrelle story is VERY true.... He was one, bad dude. He was the outstanding player in the state of Mississippi at Biloxi High AND in the state of Louisiana at South Lafourche. Coach Mac often said he was the toughest kid he ever coached. Nobody challenged him on the team during '69-'71. NOBODY!

Eric Hill was a "MAN" from Galveston Ball High School and yes...he did throw a guy through a plate glass window somewhere by campus on Highland Road!
