In reverse chronological order, I had confidence in Flynn, Russell, Mauck, Davey, Tyler and then a loooooooonnnngggg gap back to Hodson. Although I did have confidence in Melvin Hill for about 10 minutes.

russell was dumb

even though flynn made more mistakes, and had more interceptions, less touchdowns, and a lower completion percentage.

I'm not going to make an argument on this topic at all, but the stats you quote are really irrelevant to the point of being a "smart" qb. Hell, SlowFro had a football IQ of over 7 million and Andrew Hatch would look like Joe Montana compared to him on the field.

I'm sorry, but Matt Flynn was a completely mediocre QB...he, like Matt Mauck almost blew our NC hopes

That should be nominated for the most rediculous post of the year. Flynn was MVP of the game and had one bad play when the freshman WR ran the wrong way on the passing route.

I would say Russell. Flynn was close. Davey was great and I had lots of confidence in him. Davey was terrible until his junior season. There is still hope people.

Russell, 2006. We annihilated a number of teams, and he was money in the Ole Miss and Tennessee games. We'd have gone 13-1 or 14-0 if he'd stayed in 2007.

Agree!

Wasn't accurate at all.

Highest single season completion % in the history of LSU QBs. Highest completion % of any BCS QB in the country.

Naaah....he wasn't accurate at all.

I'm going with Flynn. He wasn't the greatest qb but I never had the feeling he was going to blow a game for LSU. He was a very solid college qb who was pretty accurate and could run with the ball

What I remember about Jamarcus was that we played from behind in quite a few big games and he made some big plays to win games at the end for us. What I also remember though on the negative side was that he made quite a few bad passes on 3rd down that killed a lot of drives and kept the offense off of the field. That was a legit reason that we were behind in some of the big games that we came from behind to win. Glad as hell that we were able to win those games but there was a lot of talk on this board about that issue.

It amazes me how people don't realize that Flynn lost the same amount of games a Russell. In fact Flynn was the main reason we lost the two games we did lose.

LSU has had an amazingly long string of effective QB's going back to the 70's. Not many superstars but just good, solid ones. There have been occasional boneheads under center but not that many.

I never remember thinking our QB would be an issue or problem from Herb Tyler to Matt Flynn. These guys are really something new to me.

Something is rotten.

I felt that way about Flynn in 2007, the trigger man for the best offense in school history.

I certainly felt that way about Russell in 2006 when he won the freakin' Manning Award and to a degree, I felt that way in 2005.

I will go ahead and say that I had confidence in Mauck, but this is iffier to me. Flynn and Russell made their share of mistakes (Flynn with picks and Russell with late throws and fumbles) but they also routinely made huge plays. Mauck made his share of big game mistakes and was not the playmaker that JR was (obvious) or even that Flynn was (not as obvious). Before that, I'd say Davey and for a period of time in 2000, Josh Booty (I know he has a lot of critics on this board, but he played quite well for much of 2000 and even garnered an All-SEC honor).

Maybe something like Matt Flynn forcing the interception in overtime against Ar-Kansas in the last game of the season. He had plenty time and forced it anyway. Luckily....Pitt played their best game of the season a week later.

Loved Flynn....but he had plenty "stupid plays".

Rohan Davey was the only qb we've had that i completely felt comfortable with throughout the game. He was money.

Flynn was great, but he was an inconsistent passer downfield (I remember the ball sailing on him alot). I liked Matt Mauck, but was scared he would get hurt all the time.

I never felt comfortable with JR, seems like he would coast the whole game and wait for us to be down to put forth any effort.

every qb has bad games. He was a good college qb. He could run the offense and could make something happen if the play broke down. I'm not saying he was the greatest thing but seriously you aren't gonna get Drew Brees.
