Crowton's first year which meant any team would do good offense wise.
Wrong. You may think JJ and JL could have set offensive records and won the NC in Crowton's first year but I doubt you'll find anyone else to join in.

Flynn, JR and Mauck, but for all of those my confidence had caveats. For each of them I expected solid performances before games but always feared bad ones. I think I had the most confidence in Rohan leading into games.

I agree and he is the answer to your question. In recent memory, I would go with Davey.

JL vs Troy 2008. Greatest comeback in LSU history.

After reading all of these posts, no wonder this board has a negative reputation...bunch of, how can I say this,..uneducated people's concept of football...
Russell..NO WAY.. Remember the Auburn game,.where he could have run out of bounds or throw the ball away to save time on the clock?..next play ..pass is completed at the three yd line...and game is over....THIS ONE STICKS IN MY MIND, BUT I AM SURE THERE WERE SOME MORE...his pro progress has shown he was overrated..
M Flynn..M Mauck...performance's were sec calibur..but the last great qb that played at LSU that I remember was Bert Jones...

I would say russell, i know alot of people were calling for flynn after the peach bowl. i honestly thought JR was the best qb in college football that year. I was confident in winning in 07, but i just wasnt sold on flynn, because we had only really seen him in mop up duty and the peach bowl.

Russell tbh. Dont let his pro career warp your memory. That dude was money at LSU.

Flynn, And I really liked that he would move the chains with careful runs.

yes but the OP wanted to know if you had 'confidence' in some QB's, not which were 'great'.

tiger chaser i think the op meant before the season...i had confidence in russell before 06 season started because how well he did in 05.
But to say bert jones was the last great qb is just wrong... russell and davey hold records, mauck and flynn won championships. But the last season i was confident in our qb before the season satrted was 06.

Bert was the last one to go on to the pros with success (injuries ended his career)
In need of a score I will take Mike or Bert!
