Shores? Schmidt?
Southeastern is having a great year. 33-11. 18-6 conference record. They have great team stats. Hitting .300 with 72 HRs. .977 fielding and a 3.31 team era. With a .219 opponent batting average.

Southeastern best team in the Southland Conference this year?

Would think Schmidt since he only threw a few pitches this weekend

They're in first place at the moment.

I think Ware goes first and limited pitches followed by Schmidt, Noot and Shores needs some work as well

I definitely want to see Ware figure it out, but I think it needs to come out of the bullpen. Heading into the post-season, I don't see a situation where we will need him as a starter. He needs to get as comfortable as possible coming out of the pen.

If you make a run in the SEC Tourney or get into a losers bracket in the regionals or beyond, you will need a 4th starter to soak up an extra game. Ware is definitely a candidate for that, along with Noot and Shores if either can pull it together.

I'd start Noot and give him 60 pitches.
I'd make sure Fontenot gets an appearance to see if Saturday was an anomaly or he's actually coming around.
I'd get Mayers another outing because he's seemingly getting right.
I'd give Schmidt the highest leverage, lowest odds of success moment and put him under the most pressure this game will offer. He needs to either figure it out this year or have a bunch of failures to learn from in the offseason. We tried to ease him in this weekend by letting him face a 9 hole guy hitting .200 with 2 outs in the inning and he could get it done. No more kid gloves, only baptism by fire now.

right now they are 1 game ahead of McNeese as MSU lost the series against UT-RGV. McNeese took 2 of 3 from SLU though.
Southland is a 3 team race between McNeese and SLU, McNeese has the easier schedule.
both teams are in top 15 of mid majors rankings. SLU though has only played 1 Q1 team and lost. That is the least amount Q1 games of any of mid major top 25 teams.

All things considered, I'd rather keep that lefty in the pen to pitch multiple outings in the SEC tournament if needed. Cowan would clearly be everyone's choice as the 4th starter, but if we are in the loser's bracket situation, there would probably be a good chance he would have already been used up by then.
I don't think there's much difference between Noot, Shores, and Schmidt at this point as far as consistency. I'd give any one of them the nod and see how far they could take us. The SEC tournament is a crazy beast. Let's just hope we finish out the regular season strong enough to not have to rely on the tournament for a national seed.

I would like Shores to start, his last couple of outings has been shaky.

I hate to say it but I think he has figured it out.
he’s not Cowan but he’s mostly been pretty good.
He had a couple of bad outing since Xavier but since then he’s mostly been good. A bad wall against Texas and a bad outing against McNeese other but he’s been a solid 2nd tier reliever in SEC play.

From the responses on this thread, seems we have no f’ing idea who is starting

I think we've narrowed it down to one of Ware, Schmidt, Noot, or Shores?
Honestly, there are good reasons to start and extend each of them. All of them and a few other relievers should throw at some point.
But yeah, we're all throwing darts right now.

Not disagreeing entirely, he's been serviceable out of the pen recently. I guess he just hasn't lived up to the hype for me. He made a lot of noise coming out of spring and fall camp and I was expecting a bigger role for him by now. When I say he needs to figure it out, I would like to see him pitch to contact a little more and stop trying to strike everyone out. His stuff has crazy good spin and could induce a lot of weak contact. He just seems to miss the zone a lot trying to wipe everyone out. But, then again, I'm no pitching guru. JMO
