Louisiana State 4; Long Beach 3... Blah blah all the other games that day

Yep Todd Walker for the game winner in bottom 9th.

I could usually pick up WWL radio throughout the south and newspapers usually had a small section buried in the sports section with scores.

CBS used to carry the Championship game. Remember the 91 game like it was yesterday.

I was talking to my 17 yr old son yesterday about the 89 double header at A&M. He is a LSU baseball fanatic and couldn’t imagine not being able to watch a game.

… i remember living in tiger plaza, laying on the floor of my friends apartment, very late on a sunday night… lsu coming back to win, having to beat a/m twice on sunday, and winning the game late… lsu had cleared the bench, so iirc, ben mcdonald was playing in the outfield, to keep him available… i think pat garrity(?), may be wrong, was playing 3rd, and he chased down and snagged a hard bouncing ball, and all in the same motion, fired the throw to first base, beating the runner by a step, securing the win… he was 4 steps behind third, 3 steps in foul territory, momentum going away from playing field, when he made the throw… you could hear the lsu fans screaming in the background, and the lsu radio crew going absolutely apeshite, as we were in my friends apartment... people pouring out of the apartments, dancing in the street, people jumping in the pool fully dressed… no telling how much lsu gesr got ruined by the chlorine in the pool…

e’ve come a long way from barely being able to listen to the CWS on the radio to every single game being televised.

i mean the first regional i remember being televised was 2002. 2001 super regional against tulane was on TV. most all before that were radio only. i watched that in tropical isle drinking hand grenades in NOLA.

This is strictly from memory. Todd Walker already had 3 hits that day and rather than put him on, they pitched to him (big mistake). The Long Beach pitcher was lefty, Gabe Gonzales (nicknamed "The Blade"). Catcher, Adrian Antonini was outside the dugout getting real loud and emotional as momentum was building, right before Walker hit the game winner.

It seems to me that the CWS games were on television but I remember listening to many of the regional games on radio, the most memorable of which was the College Station regional.

there was one year, do not remember what year, postseason, and we were paired with rice, and they were their usual lites-out pitching selves, and they were the higher seed… lsu took care of their business, and just had to wait for rice to clobber a/m… watched lsu game at Tiger Bar, and everyone left after lsu game… i wandered out of the bar, drifting around the carwash, searching on the radio for rice-a/m game… and i found it, may have been jbo, do not remember… listening to the game, rice winning late, a(m batting, a(m managed to load the bases, and some kid, last man off the bench, literally and actually, managed to hit a freakin grand slam.. . and a(m won… a(m fans, and players, and announcers went completely apeshite… and because we were seeded higher, a(m had to come here the next weekend… i ran back into the bar, and the party started again…

Yep. It was not televised. That would be criminal today.

Crazy 40 years later people bitch about camera angles when LSU play Southeastern on a Tuesday night

Fans are so entitled now. Remember when LSU might get two football games broadcast a year before Tigervision. Usually a couple of SEC basketball games with John Ferguson and Joe Dean on the SEC game of the week. No baseball or women's sports.

long beach state… the dirtbags… they were usually really good, as all west coast teams were… and ncaa did not give regionals to west coast teams in those days, under any circumstances… so we almost always had some west coast team 9n out regionals…
