Will he be able to come in and be that wonderman we have always had when we had very special defenses?

Brockers, Davenport, Downs and the others will have something to say about this all..

Just wondering, as in my opinion, QB-DLine and CB are the difference making positions to win the SEC. All the other areas are obviously important, but these 3 almost always have to be in place to win the SEC, unless you have the Heisman on your offense, that is...and sometimes ever if you do.

I don't know too many people who said he'd start right away. But he definitely has a legit chance to be a major part of the rotation right away, and possibly start later in the season.

Brockers and Downs will probably be the starters at the beginning. Ego will be in the rotation probably. And if Chancey Aghayere or Lavar Edwards moves inside they will get PT. Davenport needs to light a fire under his arse if he wants to have any say in how much PT Freak gets. Bennie Logan is another guy to watch, he's been progressing well and outshone Davenport when they were both in during garbage time this past season.

Everyone on the football team has a chance to be the starter. The best player plays.

He'll be in the discussion, but he's got to beat out Ferguson, Logan, and Downs.

I think its possible. He already has the size. He's probably quicker off the ball than anyone we have now. Being on campus now, will give him a huge headstart in the fall. Talent is there to start; for sure, its just technique, control, and seasoning that he needs.

Count me in. After watching him perform a few times now against very good competition I'm a believer. Especially getting to work with the team and particularly the coaches during the spring, I think he will team with Brockers early on next year. Downs, Ferguson, and Davenport will all see significant time but Freak is just that. Incredible quickness and strength combo. He could easily play end with his quickness. I think he's a tad better than Dorsey or Kyle Williams coming out of high school and that's saying something.

no way, Les' love for Josh Downs and his daydreams of seeing Josh get the big trophies like Dorsey will keep Freak from starting...

Freak has a super quick first step. He'll definitely be in there.

He told coaches at the Allstar game that he wanted in on Special teams, and that he ran 4.6, and could do it. I was impressed with his speed, on KO's in the open field. He was right there behind Sylve all the way down the field on the TD return. He told coaches that, "thats why thet call me the Freak". Now, I say this to say that he can play DE. He looked great on the edge during the AA practice, esp. in the 1 on 1's. Imagine a 300lb DE that runs like that. Kid could definately change our alignments, and allow more beef on the field against Power running teams. I could also see them switch alignments before the snap, and allow Mingo to be a Blitzing LB out of the 3-4. I think Freak is used to being a DE in the 3-4 system, as well. Just some thoughts!

What is the status of Montgomery going in to next year? Is he expected to be at full strength? Never heard how serious his injury was.

He will be in the rotation. I doubt he starts.

Now if he emerges during the season by quality play in the rotation he could emerge as a starter by the end of the year.

At the very least, I don't think he'll redshirt.
