it seems that scenario, and a lot of times it’s a desperation scenario, never seems to have the desired result, I’d love to see us take it in two but if we need Skenes, and he’s good to go, I think it should be as a starter

Again, in what way is skenes pitching 70 pitches on three full days rest at age 21, after being carefully managed all year, going to “ruin his career?”

That concept is absolute nonsense with no basis in fact that has somehow become mainstream as a pushback against legitimate overuse.

Which again is guys throwing 120 pitches every 4-5 days starting from age 15 onwards.

Not pushing it for one stretch in nine days in your body’s prime.

The TV guys just need to keep their mouths shut about it. Other than they don’t know or maybe we could see him because of course there’s the possibility.

However he could pitch about 25 pitches on Monday since that would be his bullpen day normally

I was thinking that.

If needed to punch out 2 batters in the 9th.

Science. But specifically, the medical & training staffs. A recovery program will be put in place based on how his body has responded to the program that he's used all year. They will adjust it for an anticipated short rest, and he will be evaluated through the weekend. Monday morning, he will go through some tests/evaluations; then a decision will be made.

Great explanation though I do think they also look forward as well as back. He will have more recovery time post this last game (at least in respect to LSU baseball) so that may allow for him to pitch some innings where that would not be the case for a game within the confines of the season.

Actually, he can’t. It’s against the rules. He has to have three days rest, minimum, because he threw more than 76 pitches. College Pitch Count Rules

Nothing in that “article” from sportskeeda is true. It says:

Under the regulations, no college baseball pitcher can exceed 110 pitches per game. If the threshold is passed, then that pitcher will not be able to throw for at least three more days.To further deter injury, there are certain rest thresholds. If a pitcher throws fewer than 25 pitches, there shall be no mandatory days of rest. However, for pitchers throwing between 25 and 51 pitches, one day of rest is compulsory. From 51 to 76 pitches, two days will be needed and three days for pitch counts between 76 and the maximum limit of 110.

That’s literally an amalgamation of random articles. Just like that “mlbrun” website people were trying to link yesterday it’s not true.

Nolan Ryan threw 235 pitches in one game. Pitched for 20 years in MLB.

And how many Nolan Ryans have there been since?

None.

I can see a few innings for Paul Monday but nothing else. Hoping like everyone else rain Sat.

I’m not worried about it. Some people just want kids to put their future at risk for their own selfish gratification.

Yes the Baseball savants are all about the integrity of the game, tradition, and self engrossed geniuses who have absolutely ZERO interest in us winning a Collegiate Championship. If you think pitching Skenes on 3 days rest for 1 game(the last of his LSU career) will somehow ruin a 6’6” 247lb 23yr olds career I Have No way of ever agreeing to this. If we are 1-1 on Monday, PITCH SKENES!!

Skenes’ mechanics are so good that it doesn’t really seem like he’s using an inordinate amount of effort, even when he gets up over 100 mph and even after pitching 6 or 7 innings. Says a lot about his physical and mental preparation.

When it's all hands on deck for an MLB team, many times they will opt to pitch their much better starter on 3 days rest vs whoever else they could start.

Johnson will feel compelled to do exactly that.

If Skenes tells him Monday at some point during the day that he's ready to go, he's starting the game. That is a fact.

Absolutely correct.

He threw 123 pitches, comes back on 4 days rest (MLB but certainly not collegiate baseball rest), 120 more pitches and he's still throwing 99/100 mph in that 8th inning.

If we get to Monday, I think it's a 60% chance he starts the game.

Show me that in the NCAA Baseball Rulebook or any other official NCAA publication or document or even website. I'll check back periodically to see what you come up with. I could find nothing.
