he was a fitness nut, he would stay after games and ride the stationary, do cool down workouts, he had great stamina, even towards the end

It’s the combination that would be tough. He’s not use to throwing on 4 days rest let alone 3. However he could pitch about 25 pitches on Monday since that would be his bullpen day normally

Coming in for some spot duty Monday if needed is the only scenario left.

He may not start game 3 but I see absolutely no way he doesn't come in if it's close and we have a lead to seal the deal

most mlb gms think college coaches abuse and overuse college pitchers, I don’t share that opinion

Of course they feel that because they view college as a feeder system for developing players, not for winning. They don't care what college teams do to win. They only care what they do to improve arms for MLB teams to harvest. It's bullshite. We have a right to use our players to win too.

The people who want to protect his arm and MLB career for starters.

again, I don’t share their opinion, I just know that’s the prevailing opinion, a friend of mine (former LSU pitcher,) had a long ML career, he and his peers all say that when they began working with their new pro teams that a common sentiment was “we were holding our breath hoping we could get you here before Skip ruined your arm”

Do we have a right to ruin their careers?

Because bullpen work is as intense as games?

Nolan Ryan threw 235 pitches in one game. Pitched for 20 years in MLB.

How old was he when he did those 235?

How long had he been in MLB at the time?

Were there any long or short term side effects of that outing?

Quoting a single statistic is not any level of "scientific" proof.

It was in 1974, 3 days later Ryan pitched 6 innings, and he managed to have a sorta good career after. I think Ryan is a good comparison since he and Skenes seem to share some mechanics, Skenes throws from his legs like Ryan and like Ryan has big legs and thighs. IMHO that gives hime the ability to throw longer in a game, and will probably give him longer life as a player.

Equally absurd. No need for the “as”.

Technically he could pitch on 0 days rest. But that doesn’t mean that he should.

Actually, he can’t. It’s against the rules. He has to have three days rest, minimum, because he threw more than 76 pitches.

As much as I love Skenes and would love to see him pitch again in a Tiger uniform....let's just win Sat and Sunday and eliminate the need for him!

I think it they had Skenes throw way more off speed pitches yesterday so he could throw some on Monday.

Skenes throws an "easy" 100 mph. If you compare him to other power pitchers, you'll see them whipping their arms so hard that they fall off the mound after releasing the ball.

Skenes uses his tree trunks for legs more than most pitchers and stays on balance on almost all of his pitches, because he is not giving max effort on each pitch. IMO, that is why he has such good control and can throw so many pitches without losing velo. His control is remarkable, actually. It's all in his mechanics. Pitchers are more prone to injuries as their arms get tired and they have to put even more effort into each pitch.

Compare Skenes to Lowder, or Chase Dollander. Barring something freaky, Skenes should have a long major league career. He's already built for going deep into games - it's not like he doesn't have a fully mature body. I think he'll be good to go if he comes into the game on Monday. My concern is him coming into a relief situation. mentally and physically, it's a different approach than starting. I don't know that you can assume he'll pitch as well running out to the bullpen, rushing through warmups and then going right to the stretch with runners in scoring position.
