The basketball coach before wade (can’t even remember his name lol) was really terrible. Not sure I’d say McMan is worse than him.

Johnny Jones never had a losing season until his final year at LSU (his 5th year). In his first 4 seasons Jones’s WORST SEC record was 9-9. That’s McMahon’s best record.

So yes, McMahon is infinitely worse than the guy before Wade

I'm a little too young for Curely, so I'll go Johnny Jones.

He had more NBA talent than any LSU coach in 20 years. He was playing an EXTREMELY easy SEC. He managed to go to the tournament once and blow a 20 point lead in his lone game.

McMahon had no chance his first year, won 9 games in his second year, and dealt with injuries in the other two years. He's also competing in the best conference in the sport, and has for his entire time at LSU.

MM is horrendous and needs to go yesterday, but Jones was fricking pathetic here.

See my post above.

Jones was playing in a minor league conference to what the SEC is now. There was not a season that ended with more than two conference teams ranked during his tenure. There was 5 in 23/24 and 8 in 24/25. Amount of SEC teams in the NCAA tournament during each tenure.

Jones:

2013: 3 teams
2014: 3 teams
2015: 5 teams
2016: 3 teams

McMahon

22/23: 6 teams
23/24: 9 teams
24/25: 11 teams

Jones did less with more than anyone in school history (outside of Dale Brown if you want to talk about championships).

I also count destroying a program. LSU was top 5 when Arnsparger left and mike Archer ran it into the ground within 5 years. The 87 team was loaded and Arnsparger might have won it all had he stayed.
McMahon took over a good program despite the sanctions and almost every player and recruit left the program. He is the curley Hallman of basketball. Hallman had Brett Favre to make him look good. McMahon had Ja Morant.

Strange to me that 50 years ago was 1976. It's still 30 years ago to me dammet.

McMahon had open transfers and took over a program that had been making tournaments yearly.

Jones took over a program starting a tuba player.

MM took over a program hit with pretty severe recruiting restrictions. He was also a guy who, coming from a small school, was used to building programs by getting guys in the system for a couple years. Further, he took over a team, in April, with zero players.

Jones started Del Pierro, not Trent.

Jones also had Hickey, Johnny O'Bryant, and Andre Stringer already in the program.

Then he managed to do absolutely nothing with Mickey/Martin/Simmons/Blakeney/Victor/Sampson/Quarterman/Mays/Hornsby/Reath.

That's a ton of talent for a school like LSU to have at that time.

Big sports?
What's that?
To the people that coach and play them, it's a big sport.

The coach that the, (powers that be) thought was the next Cholly Mac but had Brett Farve as his QB! A lot of us knew this but had no say in the decision!

Laughable

Wade did it.

Not uncommon at all nowadays and just cause they enter the portal didn’t mean they left. He had 2 starters from NCAA tournament teams return on that first roster AND brought along multiple of his own guys.

LSU has ALWAYS gotten talent.

McMahon has even had high ranked recruiting classes.

Just think how bad you think jones sucks then realize that McMahon has come nowhere close to his equal in regards to success
