He has not been as dominant as Collins was.
By the ratings of this thread, La'el Collins might be the most underrated offensive lineman in LSU history.
Through his first two seasons he has.
And the most underrated falls to Trai Turner. That we only got to see him play essentially 1.5 seasons in P&G will hurt him in GOAT discussions but he was a top-tier talent as much as others.
ETA: Ciron Black deserves some mention so I'll do the honors. 4Y starter at LT and on his way to being a 1st rd pick until injury. Great playet.

He is, without a doubt, the most overrated offensive lineman in LSU history.
He was a unanimous All American, my dude.

From way back when:
Don Estes(T)
Roy Winston (G)
Largely through their efforts and a great Bandits defense they finished 10-1 with a bowl victory over a good Colorado team. Dennis Gaubatz(C) and Monk Guillot(G) also contributed mightily on the White Team in a great running offense.
The White Team was first string and played both ways - offense and Defense The Go Team played offense only and the Chinese Bandits mopped up on defense. I’ve always thought that the 1961 Tigers were some of the greatest.
Gene Sykes and Gates were the Ends and the back field of that team was Jimmy Field(QB), Jerry Stovall and Roy Harris (HBs) and Earl Gros, the greatest fullback that LSU has ever had.
Great memories.

We're talking about two very different offensive systems.
Campbell may end up being just as effective, or more, without being as dominant as Collins was. Pass blocking will be the key for Campbell, whereas being a dominant run blocker was much more important for Collins.
I think the system Campbell is in is better for development for the NFL. I also think Collins not being drafted has some effect on him being underrated. Draft position tends to stay with players through their careers, for better or worse with the expectations that come along with it.
Offensive linemen are probably the most overlooked in their actual on-field performance. And because they don't accumulate statistics like other positions, other things end up affecting their ratings and narratives more -- accolades, draft status, etc. Campbell has that going for him currently. After going undrafted because of legal issues, Collins seems to have been somewhat forgotten/overlooked relative to how dominant he was in college.

You are quite right. Defensive linemen can accumulate sacks and tackle statistics but guys on offense are memorable for individual pancake blocks or for pulling blocks that lead to a score in dramatic situations, but don’t show in game stats the same way.

Wilkerson and Daniels will always be probably top 5 of my favorite players ever at lsu for what they sacrificed for the team mentality.
I really wish Wilkerson did not come back for his sr year, breaks my heart. He is the greatest center I have ever seen at lsu

In terms of NFL careers, you have to include McClure.

Big Whit
Faneca
Campbell
Andolsek
John Ed Bradley was a solid center, I would add No one loved LSU more than JEB!
