Who is the best coach in LSU football history?
CHARLES MCCLENDON + A ALL AMERICAN DEFENSIVE END FOR THE KENTUCKY WILDCATS WHO WAS VOTED MVP OF THE 1951 SUGAR BOWL. KENTUCKY WAS RANKED #1 AND REMAINED #1 AFTER THE 13-6 VICTORY OVER OKLAHOMA.
Oklahoma was #1 going into the game and remained #1 after the game. As a side note, Kentucky was coached by Bear Bryant when Cholly Mac played there.
McClendon was not the best coach in LSU history, however.

Saban lifted the program to rarified air. Much credit should be given to this "heavy lifting" and is an indelible part of LSU football.

Well if we're just saying
Les Miles is 32-6 in his first 38 games
Charlie Mac was 28-8-2
Bernie Moore was 31-7
DiNardo was 29-8-1
Not sure that metric is any way to determine who is the best coach though.
On a side note, Orgeron has a chance to have back to back double digit winning seasons. That would make him only the second coach in LSU history to do so. The ohe guy had a run of 3 straight then another of 4 straight.
I hope O can string together 10 straight.

If Ed O wins 2 national titles these next 5 years, would he be considered the greatest coach in LSU football history?

Saban and Miles

Nick Saban. Anyone who says otherwise is a moron or has a transparent agenda.

Saban.
And it’s not even close.

CLM record wise. But Saban as far as success
Posted on 10/4/19 at 7:47 pm to Dude88
Les. He has the wins, the percentage, the championships to back it up.
Dietzel is a good shout, but I wasn't alive during those times.

When we are all dead the record books will say Les. Possibly Orgeron if he wins a couple.
Saban is the best ever, but once he got to Bama.
