re: Who is supposed to be the stud pitcher next year?

Pitching starters will have to be figured out and the bullpen can't be much worse than it was this season
Pitching is 90% of the game. If we don’t rectify our pitching problems we will continue to flounder.
We had several highly touted freshman pitchers, but none have stepped up as starters in weekend action. They look like throwers and not pitchers.
This is an indictment of our pitching coach and/or our recruiting. Traditionally we have had kids come in as freshmen and show more command and frequently one will become a valuable weekend starter. Frequently one or two steps up in relief as a reliable innings eater. It hadn’t happened this year for some reason even though we have some highly rated arms.

I think PM has already told him good luck and good bye. Hill didn't even use the team doc who is actually very good at TJ surgeries. Sounds like he didn't trust anyone within the program with this injury/rehab
Any chance he comes back under a different coach?

There is a chance, I guess. He was recruited by at least one of the HC candidates out of HS.
But I would guess whoever the new coach is they may not want to commit the type of scholarship money it would take to keep him here for another couple years while they are trying to build the program back up.
Especially when there are likely to be pro teams that won't be scared off by him having surgery.

Even if someone comes in and beats Milazzo out there is still a place for a guy like him on the roster and to get playing time.
and would he want to do that
say Dan Mcdonnell comes in and invites one of these stud corn-fed midwestern catchers he likes to recruit to come to LSU with him
then what
stay and never play and be the backup?

He would make that decision. That’s not being processed. Huge difference

Does that apply to first basemen too?

Sure. Something has to give

Hilliard can come back but he wanted to sign a free agent deal after last year
He will likely try and do same this year
I still don’t see him getting drafted this year either

You don't think a new coach would make a recruit compete for the job? He'd just hand over the keys?
Posted on 5/10/21 at 7:27 pm to DRock88
A recruit yes probably.
A current college player from his own team tho? Idk
I don’t know how realistic that would be anyway. Thus transfer stuff is unprecedented. Like basketball & football though, expect a lot of movement

That's how I see it, too. If he brought an experienced and proven guy along, he'd have the upper hand and a guy like Milazzo would see the handwriting on the wall and leave. If he got a recruit in, he and Milazzo would have to compete for the job. No coach is just going to bring a recruit in to oust a 2-year starter behind the plate, especially one with the defensive skills that Milazzo has. I will say, Milazzo didn't start the year very well behind the plate...he seemed out of shape. With a new coach, he may not get much of a second chance if he started slow...he doesn't hit well enough to warrant it unless the injury bug strikes.
ETA: Louisville's leading hitter is their catcher. They also have Ben Bianco on the roster.

Who sat out last year due to injury and threw 120 pitches in a game this year
Ok. Last Season was cancelled and AJ Labas sat out the entire 2019 season with shoulder surgery. He was given a Medical Redshirt and is back this season.
He pitched on 04/23/21 vs Ole Miss and went 9 innings and threw 126 pitches. I am sure you and your fellow geniuses think this is wise by Maineiri. Dumbasses.

He's 22 years old and more than two full years removed from surgery. It was also an isolated incident and he was on an extra day of rest.

I don’t think it was wise, but that can stand on its own without hyperbole and flat out making things up.
