In all seriousness it's les miles. He's tied to our university and has been the most talked about person locally and nationally for our program. Shaq is more known by everyone for what he's done in the NBA. Pistol Pete is probably a good call but in all honestly LES MILES will be one of those coaches that defines our program for a long time.

Les Miles? Ah, Grasshopper, you have much living to do, right?

As good, as I believe he is, or as enigmatic, as others view him, Les will not be remembered as one of the BEST college football coaches of all time.

Pete and Skip are now, and will always be, icons in their respective sports... not just here at LSU. Pick one of them and you have a safe bet.

this is about LSU sports history. Not the ncaa history.

But if he gets us another national title, he will most certainly be remembered as one of the best college coaches IN THE SEC and possibly the ncaa. He future at lsu is still unwritten.

but he is at the forefront of possibly one of the GREATEST runs in the bcs era, with one more NC lsu will be the best college program of the modern contemporary bcs era

He might be remembered as the best LSU coach of all time if you're only looking at records

Shaq
Pistol Pete

I'd put Shaq above Pistol Pete just because he has done so much more than Maravich. Even outside the world of sports, everyone knows who Shaq is.

Not many people outside of Louisiana know who Billy Cannon is.

This thread proves my point about LSU generational near sightedness. No one has even mentioned Bob Pettit.

The two are hand in hand. If a coach/player is considered one of the best historically in the history of the NCAA, would that not then, by default, make them one of the best in LSU's history?

Skip won 5 NCs in 9 years. CLM's legend has yet to be completed. But I am fairly certain he will not accomplish this feat.
