The story of how Murray State got Morant is nearly as random as Dale Brown meeting Shaq in Germany. McMahon never saw Morant when he offered the scholarship. An assistant at a camp left a meeting to go get a coke in the gym and happened to see Morant playing. That’s how they stumbled onto him

Again, you have to be a basketball savant to know why he’s a good coach. It’s hard to see from an amateur eye. Nobody can actually explain what he’s good at, he’s just good.

His first year was a transfer team from his old school that was pieced together with duct tape.

The team has improved this year from last. He gets a 3rd year, as should almost any coach in any sport. I have no idea why he isn’t playing Chest. If it’s only to red shirt, it’s stupid.

But no one actually knows if that’s why

Those excuses make sense from a 10,000 foot view of things but when you’re getting beat by teams like Nicholls and every losing team in the SEC those things are debunked. By every measurable standard his teams have been more talented than the vast majority of his opponents yet he’s at an 18% conf win percentage and closing in on a career 8-40 record vs P5 opponents. Thats not lack of talent, that’s lack of coaching.

Wade is a great coach and completely nuked his LSU tenure. Sucks he got caught being an idiot and had to resort to McNeese

He is an average coach in a tough conference. His ceiling when everything falls into place from a roster standpoint is a bubble team in the NCAAT. His floor is hoping to get an NIT bid. Maybe that’s ok for SW? I don’t know. What I do know is he doesn’t know how to adjust when his game plan isn’t working. He actually tried to play up tempo with Bama. Again after getting schooled the first time. SMH.

Agreed hate him or love him can’t deny that his isn’t a top tier basketball coach . That’s two programs he has completely turned around . It’s only up for McNeese State .

He unfortunately won’t be there long. Just hope he stays out of the SEC

It's all relative and for me that's key. Is he a good coach for here, is he a good coach for this level, is he a good coach in a vacuum, is he a good coach for this region, this conference, is he a good X and O coach, is he a good leader of men, is he a good communicator is he a good teacher, is he a good recruiter and on and on.

He can be good at some, or most, but some of those are more important for here.

If you get a job at this level you are probably a good coach in some or several of the above.

I have not made up my mind yet if I think he can be a successful coach HERE and that quite frankly is all I'm concerned with. Some here have made up their mind he can't and there's not much we can do to change that CMM will have to.

I hope he does.

I’m defending him, but that record is pretty terrible.

We have to be smarter about who we hire next time. The model for our talent pool in this region is Houston, Baylor, ATM. Hell, that’s even what Mcneese is doing this year. Thats how you sustain success and identity at LSU, by taking on the personality of your local recruiting base. This idea that McMahon’s gonna bring in good enough players to execute high level, precise half court basketball year in and year out is fairy dust. We need to be defense oriented, pounding the glass and filling the roster with athletes you can do that with in waves.

Kenpom

Here kenpom rankings if anyone interested. Looks like we are second to last in the sec . Could’ve overlooked a team tho . For context McNeese State is ahead of us

He also hired Buzz Williams to Aggie who has been average to bad.

One tournament appearance?

He doesn't have a clue about basketball

He played in the exhibition and then a few days later someone here reported McMahon said he was redshirting at the tip off luncheon or whatever it’s called. Unless he sustained a major injury in practice in those couple of days this seems to have been planned, and if it was a major injury we probably would have heard about it.
