And Floyd on Sunday relieved by Hurd is the way to win the super regional without having to play Monday? Guidry can relieve Skenes in the 8th and 9th if necessary. Just a thought on my part.

It’s all in on getting the series in 2 games. You know what you’ve got with Skenes, you gotta go all in on day 2

Since you wrote the post I assumed it was a thought on your part . Am I correct?

That's the way to do it. But you use Hurd on Saturday if you have to. Win the Skenes start at all costs. Though I honestly think following Skenes with Cooper is a good strategy since the timing is so different. That's what we did when we played UK the first time fwiw and that was before Cooper was good.

If we can win Sat without using Hurd and we get behind early on Sunday then you can save Hurd to start Monday

I would like to see:
Sat= Skenes/Guidry in relief
Sun= Floyd/Hurd in relief
Get this done in 2 and move on to Omaha!

Excellent point on the use of using Cooper behind Skenes.

Are you saying we should pitch our ace in game one and #2 in game two?!

What am I missing - of course that’s what we’re going to do.

My question was basically how would you use the relievers after skenes and Floyd. It's not a difficult question and doesn't require a smart arse comment. Grown people are having a conversation. Sit your arse outside.

It depends on if we’re ahead in game 2. If we’re behind by 3 or so, there’s no reason to burn hurd in a game we aren’t ahead in. If we’re up by a couple after 5-6 innings, then yes I’d throw hurd to close it out

I'd venture to say 92% of fans and coaches think that.

I see what you mean.

Hopefully Skenes goes 7 or 8 and we can close it with Guidry.

Then Hurd to relieve Floyd if we have a lead.

agree

"If we’re up by a couple after 5-6 innings, then yes I’d throw hurd [on Sat] to close it out"

agree

But I think Skenes will go deep and Jay will be in need of six outs or less. Skenes would have to have to lose all control of the game - unlikely- for Jay to not let him work out of trouble in the 5th or 6th

Depending on how the game is playing out depends on if Hurd comes in after Floyd. But yes I do think we go Saturday Skenes, Sunday Floyd weather dependent.

I think Floyd to Hurd can make sense if we have a decent enough lead. If it's a close game or we're down when Floyd needs to come out I think you have to potentially save Hurd for a game 3.

If we win game 1 with Skenes, the only way you pitch Hurd in game 2 is either as the starter or if Floyd leaves game 2 with a lead and you call on Hurd to close it out.

If we're losing game 2, I'd rather hold on to Hurd for game 3.

Skenes goes 9 again, we score 7-8 runs for him.

Go Floyd, Hurd, Guidry again in Game 2, win .
