Real answer:

Chris Pettaway - Parade AA and one of the top recruits in the US.

Nice guy and recruiting hype really wasn’t his fault. Was a different era.

The reality, however, was Smith was nowhere near a 5-star and played more like a 2-star and that's being generous! Smith was so bad that teams intentionally ran at him because they knew he couldn't shed OL and was easy to move off his spot which created huge holes for RBs.

Freshman All-American and 2nd round pick by the way…. Maybe you just don’t know ball

It feels like I’m still waiting to see Travonte Valentine play.

For me, it's Maason Smith. Came to LSU as the top ranked player in the state of Louisiana, a consensus 5-star and was seen as a can't miss recruit.

Freshman all American, had an ACL tear in the first game his 2nd season on the first series. Never recovered from this injury and injured his knee playing for the LSU Tigers; to blame him and call him a bust is disrespectful as a fan.

ACL surgeries are not 100% comebacks and all surgeries come out perfect. M. Smith simply did not have a good outcome and this happens.

No idea why he transferred. Had a ton of potential and made a couple of decent plays. Wins a national championship and then transfers to TCU. Made no sense.

Chris Davenport immediately came to mind. He was one of those must get guys at the time.

Some of you guys don’t understand what bust means. If you get recruited and play, you may not have lived up to the star you were rated as but that’s not a bust. A player that was a highly ranked recruit that never saw the field or only in mop up duty, that is a bust.

I'm still giving Harvey Williams credit for LSU University and any derivatives.

Spitballing here going back to the early 00s. Thinking of top 50 kids, 5 stars, etc. who may have had some starts but never considered a top contributor.
