Whit’s football IQ

In his interview with Moscona, Whit mentioned how he's been working on understanding offensive passing schemes better this offseason. Says he's looking for 3 picks and focusing on taking away reads 1 and 2 rather than squatting on reads 3 and 4 like years past.
This type of stuff fires me up. He was already a dude based on sheer ability and instinct, but the attention to detail of knowing the opposing QBs read progression pre snap based on personnel and alignment is really promising. If this is the level at which we develop players moving forward then it ought to be a really fun several years.

Between him and PJ Woodland should have the entire fanbase excited.

Could not agree more. Woodland has been one of my favorite players the last couple of years. He's been over looked by local and national media because of names like Delane and Pickett but he's such a difference maker. His picks come from man coverage and he's always in phase on tape, he plays through blocks with his hands on the perimeter, he's twitchy in his zone breaks towards underneath routes causing several PBUs, and the dude can blitz effectively from the corner position. I'm not saying he's the best DB we've had, hell he may not be the best DB we have currently with Pickett on the other side... but that dude would be the best DB on the field for a lot of football teams, and he's damn fun to watch

Hes the hardest working and has that fighter mentality. Hes going to be a very successful player.

So did you not watch or listen to any interviews? Bo Bordelon was mentioned as hardest working and so was PJ. Also Ty being at the facility and bringing other players along with him. It was mentioned last year by several people in the media about PJ and continued into this season.

From that interview I don’t question Whits football IQ but I absolutely question the medical staff IQ and coaches IQ….basically Whit stated it took over two weeks for them to decide to get an MRI done in his ankle and determined it was broken and they allowed him to play in subsequent games.

I thought the same thing. Pretty embarrassing in all honesty and could have been much worse of an injury than it was. But also, pretty incredible that he gutted out the SC game with a broken ankle.

It truly seems like the staff was reluctant to spend the time and money on the MRI which is concerning. Just get an MRI to be precautious to not cause further injury. That is insane.

He's come a long way in that regard - it was a weakness early on. A couple of few big plays for touchdowns in 2024 were off missed assignments buy Whit, the South Carolina game in Columbia comes immediately to mind.
One thing it that interview - I think it was said that he got hurt at the end of that Ole Miss game on the last drive but continued to play? If I recall Ole Miss had to convert a 4th and 3 to put the game away with about 1:30 left? I wonder if he was hurt before that play.

I agree he’s wicked smaht. Only thing that i noticed is when he was talking to Hester and Flynn he told them were doing so many new things now like “the offense is running different plays from the same picture (formation)”

Pj is simply scrappy as hell. Even when he gets beat like he did against bama and ole miss he’ll bounce right back and make a play. He’s a perfect Robin to Pickett: he’s fast, physical, good ball skills, great Short area quickness, and a sure tackler. He’s the reason stamps transferred

Frankly it’s the same situation with the Nuss injury. He Gets hurt in Fall camp and it takes a NFL medical scan in the Spring to determine his injury. Just flat unacceptable . MRI’s can’t cost that much to perform on your tier 1 paid athletes.

Whit is an intelligent, experienced and talented player as we all realize.
I believe he’ll be one of tge nation’s premier defenders if healthy and should provide solid team leadership as well.

Moving from high school, when you are typically the big dog and don't really have to know all of this stuff, to college when you do, it is really great that he is growing. He will definitely need this to play at the next level

The defense could be really special. Plenty of talent, experience/IQ, heart, and depth at every layer. I think Benefield ends up a first rounder, and we see alot of high draft picks on that side of the ball.
