t is LSU by virtue of being the state university for well over 100 years. The Saints were born in the 60s and sucked balls until the 90s. Think about it, Billy Cannon's holloween run, the Chinese Bandits, the national title, 4 generations of fandom, all of that happened before anyone dreamed of an NFL team in Louisiana.

This is it in a nut shell for me, as a middle aged fan. On top of the Saints not being born until '67, then in '71 or so, they went and drafted that Ole Piss QB, so I didn't follow them until the '80's.

For me (and people my age), it is LSU all the way. But for my parents' generation (tail end of boomers), I think it is the saints. When the saints won the super bowl, my phone didn't stop ringing. When LSU won the NC, nothing.

The saints are my favorite Nfl team. The tigers are my favorite team, period. I would prefer to watch the tigers play any sport before I'd watch anything else.

You realize you not caring about the saints doesn't make LSU the answer to the OP's question, correct?

Personally I can't choose between the two and I'm glad I don't have to. I'd say LSU is more popular overall though.

Amazing how many people are just stating who they personally like more and not answering the question in the OP

This statement got lost in the shuffle apparently.

But LSU is the answer. Just like 2+2=4.

Irrelevant to the question. But LSU gained a lot of fans in 2003, it goes both ways.

LSU was always THE team in La. You have to remember the Saints sucked until very recently. Should LSU suck for another Decade and the Saints become super bowl contenders every year, things may change based on mass bandwagon defections.

It's going to take a generation or three to change the culture of LSU football being what it is in La. I'm not really an NFL fan, but have always been a Saints fan, but the Saints have along way to go to capture the spirit of the State like LSU has.

I went to plenty of LSU games in the 90's where there were plenty of empty seats just like the saints.

The Saints winning the Super Bowl was the single most emotional sports moment in the history of the state and will always be.
