Gymnastics having the best season in sports history only to choke in the final.

Think if we are talking about this season's baseball, then it is baseball

Football. However, if you'd asked which had the best chance at a natty I'd guess baseball

I think that seems pretty rational.

Really, a tossup between football (which returns just about everyone) and baseball. You can find coulda/shoulda's in just about every baseball loss this season.

Basketball- I think has about the same chance at making the Sweet 16, as football has of winning the SEC.

Seems a bit pessimistic to me

I'll start this by saying I'm in no way an expert on statistics. But lsu baseball was technically founded in 1893 and we have 6 NCs. I have no idea about those early years but at least 5% of the years we've fielded a team we have hardware showing a national title. All 6 titles have come in last 25 years so we are trending up in a hurry. Not to mention we were no where near #1 in the country in the large majority of the years we have had a team. This team is ranked #1, just won a series against #2, and has a coach who has 1 National championship in his 8 full seasons here already. I think saying we have a 10% chance to win it this year is still being very conservative.

Baseball: 15% NC chance

In football winning an sec championship is basically making the playoff. I say this bc even though an sec champ can be left out, 2 SEC teams can also be included. Since 2000, or last 15 years, we have 4 sec titles. I know you mean this year and we are not as highly thought of as most of those title teams going into the season, but considering that in miles' ten years he would have made the playoff at least twice cutting that percentage in half and saying 10% chance this year seems reasonable. But I could see an argument for as high as 20% chance. So I'll go 15% again

Football: 15% playoff chance

Basketball seems more reasonable going off of historical percentages. But how many teams in our basketball history had the "best" player in the national like Simmons might be. The shaq and pistol Pete years I guess. I would think 2% might be a little low this year. I mean even 10% means something is very unlikely lol. I don't think it would shock the world like the impossible happened if lsu is a 4 seed or better and makes a final four run.

Basketball: 5% chance final 4

That looks about right in my opinion. Would put baseball at 20%, but otherwise all else agree. Nice post

Mathematically Football is the most likely. Followed by baseball, then basketball.

It's a totally biased and loaded question. Comparing merely making basketball and football a post season appearance to baseball winning it all is faulty premise

Loaded and biased? It's simply a question. He asked of 3 scenarios which is more likely, not which is more impressive.

He's not comparing the chance of basketball winning a title to baseball going to Omaha, that wouldn't be worth discussing. Neither would the odds of each team winning a title or advancing to equal levels of postseason.

In the last quarter century Baseball has more National titles (winning it all) than Football would have playoff appearances and basketball has had final fours. So your "merely making postseason" comment like it's unfair to baseball winning it all doesn't make sense in regards to his question. He's not saying baseball winning a title is less impressive than other sports, just more likely.
