While Daniels looked to be much more comfortable throwing the ball than in the spring, the biggest improvement in his game was on short and intermediate throw accuracy. He missed on a few passes but overall looked the part of a more confident passer, a dangerous combination to go along with his lethal running ability.

With that being said, there is something about the way that the ball comes off Nussmeier’s hands that’s just different. He’s excellent at ball placement and really seemed to take a huge leap in his decision making. What we haven’t seen is Nussmeier participate in a full practice to this point because of that ankle, which leads to the biggest point of this piece.

Wednesday’s full practice viewing will be an extremely important, tell-tale sign of where this battle is. At this time, there truly seems to be some discrepancy about where this battle stands. Some are firmly in the camp that Daniels’ dual threat ability is the final tipping point that will earn him the job.

Though Nussmeier may not have the same wheels as Daniels in the open field, he’s more than capable of scrambling and extending plays while keeping his eyes downfield. It was very interesting on Monday that with no Brennan, Nussmeier and Daniels split the first team reps.
