Front 7 play is going to be critical. Everyone knows we will have really good coverage and pass rushing skills. But where does our rushing defense stand? Bout to find out I guess!

Linebackers were a weakness last season, and even though we have players there, I hope they are well improved. The DL should get penetration though

To me everything is a? On both sides of the ball. I really need to watch the first game to get a sense of how I feel the season will go. I did have the luxury of going to two practices and do you see that the attitude is much more upbeat I think they’re going to be more physical. We have to stop the big place unlike last year

I’m very concerned against the run. Especially with 2 LB’s, and 5 DB’s if that’s what we run more than not. Hopefully they step up and answer the bell.

They have the personnel but stopping that QB option is more about knowing your assignments

Even if the run gives us problems we can put 9 in the box and stop UCLA’s pass game

They may gash us early but we’ll adjust and force them to the air

This is where it benefits us to have tape on them. We can see their strengths and prepare a gameplan. And they have no tape on us.

Even if we don't get in the backfield, which we should, it's gonna take them 5 or 6 guys to block our front 4. The linebackers should be free to move around.

Bro...they sub out and match personnel.
So you're never going to see us in nickel if there's 1 Wr 3 TE...unless we know something's up and it most likely a pass.

I think this is where we go 4-3 and have mike Jones in there as that 3 LB who can also play in space and cover a WR or RB

I think the plan against Hawaii was to run the ball and win easily. It will be different for LSU. They will try to throw the ball a lot more. It will also depend on how well the DL penetrates and the LBs stay on assignment and cover both options. The eye candy will be enticing. They will try to get us to commit to an option. The key will be if our DL can make them commit sooner than we have to commit.

It is all important but stopping the pass and pass rush is what teams are all built for now. Remember 600+ yrds passing to Moo State last year...

LB talent wasn’t the problem last year. It was that they had no idea what they were doing in Pelini’s defense. Blake Baker is a good LB coach, so I expect to see a lot of improvement here. We’ll see how much Saturday. If the LBs do a good job playing disciplined and understand their gaps and assignments, then the run D should be good.

If we can’t stop a middle of the road PAC 10 team from running, it will be a very bad season.
