Did you see me say that Curiel was better offensively? the quoted text in your post is all I said. I was responding to the poster that said Crews had better stats. When looking at the stats side by side, Curiel had the same amount of hits, more RBI, a better OBP, similar batting average, more doubles. He had less HR, less OPS (another power stat). The definitive answer is Dylan Crews had more power than Derek Curiel. Was he better offensively than Curiel? That's hard to tell.
Agree 100%

Curiel had Stanfield batting in front of him. Crews had Alex Milazzo
This is exactly my point and makes RBI a pretty useless stat when comparing seasons.

That's hard to tell.

Stats beg to differ little bro
Which stats? Crews wins OPS: 1.116 vs. 0.976. Crews also wins wOBA: .470 vs. .424. Those are the two biggest measures of how good a player is at offense. RBI isn't a great measure since it is so dependent on how good other guys are at getting on base and where you are in the lineup.
Crews also struck out less frequently: 17.9% of the time vs. 21.1%.

The most amazing thing about Crews is that among the great freshman years talked about, he was far improved offensively and defensively his sophomore year, then improved even more his junior year

Todd Walker and it’s not even that close.

Crews also wasn’t a 20 year old freshman either.

Curiel clearly #1 all time true freshman. He helped win us a title.

Should be irrelevant when discussing best true freshman. And I feel bad I have to provide counter arguments as I love Curiel as a player.

You mention doubles for Curiel and in parentheses talk about OPS being a power stat. You realize doubles are a power stat too right? So they had comparable batting averages (Crews’ a little higher) and Crews had more power on top of having a better batting average (he had 16 doubles to go along with his 18 HRs). He also had 4x as many steals. He had a better offensive season than Curiel did. It’s not that hard to tell. The biggest difference is Curiel had more guys on base when he came to the plate so he, in effect, had the opportunity to drive in more runs. Crews was also a better defensive player with a bigger arm than Curiel at the same age. Crews was a true 5 tool player as a true freshman. Curiel isn’t yet.
The only LSU freshman position player who has an argument over Crews is Todd Walker.

Walker is way up there. But compare professional ability. Bregs and Crews have already exceeded what he did. If we are talking just college, whole different list. I was taking everything into account.
Curiel will be in the league as long as he wants.
