I miss that dude, the one that was all over the field making plays and constantly in the QBs den.

I mean, just go ahead and tell the remaining teams’ offenses on the schedule to not scheme around him. That should do the trick.

Or how about play him up to his strengths, that should do the trick.

He was in the backfield consistently last week and made a pick. Not every team will be as incompetent as Arkansas last year and we now don’t have corners to make qb’s hold the ball.

I don't buy into this. If he was really that good, he wouldn't have strengths and weaknesses. Makes me feel if he's not in the right scheme he will struggle. Same thing could be in the future at the NFL level.

Every single player has strengths and weaknesses

Shocking turn of events that expanding a young player's role in the defense took a little time for him to get acclimated and begin playing up to his speed.

This is asinine. Tom Brady is probably the GOAT and he had limitations.

Teams schemed around Will Anderson last year and his TFLs and sacks were nearly cut in half from his sophomore season.

Perkins is built like an OLB. He’s not just going to speed rush around 300+ pound OL if the rest of the DL isn’t getting any push and forcing double teams. It also doesn’t help that the defensive backs aren’t locking up receivers and forcing QBs to hold onto the ball. Believe it or not, it isn’t hard to neutralize one player on defense if others aren’t doing their jobs.

Go look at Perkins' highlights last year. Most of his sacks were on plays where the QB couldn't find anyone open, had to roll out of the pocket to avoid pressure by the DL, and then Perkins, who was spying, then crashed. We don't have a good enough defense this year to let Perkins just stand around and watch the QB every play

It's really amazing how this board has turned to thinking this form of Perkins is somehow better than the one last year that was consistently destroying opponent offenses and dictating their gameplans... I get Kelly wants to do this as part of developing Perkins for the NFL, but anything other than lining him up as a passrusher on 3rd downs is crazy.

Do you not understand that teams are scheming against him now?

He can't just "rush every play"

I’ve noticed that when we try and line him up off the wide side defensive end teams are putting a guy on the slot right there and daring us to either dedicate a safety (which we’re not doing since we get beat so easily) or dropping him back. As a result we’re dropping him back more.
