Hiring Dinardo. He ended the streak of losing seasons, won 3 bowl games, returned home crowds to sellouts and got LSU back on the recruiting map with Faulk, etc. He left the program much better than what he inherited. Saban's Natl Champ was helped by 4th and 5th year players DiNardo had brought in too.

This is what I point to. So, Dinardo's hiring is probably the beginning. Even though he ended up failing, he showed that LSU was a sleeping giant in college football, and it led to Emmert and Bertman opening up the wallet for Saban. I remember when Saban was hired, he was given approximately $1.2 million per year, which was close to triple what LSU paid Dinardo. Emmert had the foresight to see that LSU would see a tremendous return on the investment with the right coach in place.

UGA 2003. The program went to another level that day. So the play would be Mauck to Green.

Tennessee game 2000. This was a team considered dominant and LSU went toe to toe and didn't back down or choke.

I still say Rohan's performance in this game was one of the absolute best in the history of LSU football. What a night!

There was a moment in Saban's first game. The previous year each time something adverse happened the entire LSU effort collapsed. In the first quarter of Saban's first game something happened bad, I can't remember what, a fumble maybe, but I remember the defense stiffening as it had not done in many years. We stopped that team from scoring on us, and I knew then things would be very different from here.

THIS is the answer...I don't think Saban considers LSU without the success Faulk brought!

Saban is the only answer. Where do you think we would be if we 'landed' Derek Dooley or someone instead of Saban? If we are talking about Football excellence, Saban takes the cake.

Faulk was a turning point from 'depressing' to 'hope'.. Saban turned hope into expectation and I don't ever want to go back!

When somebody, probably Emmert, gave Joe Dean a bottle of Johnny Walker, told him to go home and take a nap, that he wasn't going to be involved in the coaching search and they hired Saban.

A specific game or even better a specific play? In your opinion.

Bring Back the Magic, Auburn, 1995, as far as a game (a specific play would be the Troy Twillie interception).

However, it is probably slightly earlier - the Kevin Faulk commitment.
