re: When Texas and Oklahoma join, we are going to have the easiest permanent opponents

Pods:
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Missouri
LSU
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Miss State
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Vandy
Florida
South Carolina
Georgia
Kentucky
Everybody plays everyone in their pod. No permanent partners outside of the pods. This allows the most meetings between every team through the years.

They’re not giving us both Ole Miss and Miss State. It will be OM, A&M and either Florida or Alabama. We’re not getting two from the bottom 8 because we are a top 8 school. Top 8s will get 2 top 8s, bottom 8s will get two bottom 8s.

A&M is far to the west, so no way that they are going to geographically alienate them and pair them with a bunch of East opponents. Same with Missouri. Doesn’t make sense to put them in an eastern US bracket.
They will preserve the big rivalries no doubt, but there may be an East, central, and western component to their thinking as well.

Bama will have Tennessee and Auburn so there’s no way the SEC gives them 3 tough permanent opponents.
Tennessee has ONE good year in the last 25 years but they’ll be “tough permanent?”
The highest viewed college football games most years is LSU vs Alabama. Why would the SEC and TV networks give that up?

It may not be pods. I have read it will not be pods, just three permanent opponents for each team. LSU could have Ole Miss, State and A&M. A&M could have LSU, Texas and OK Texas could have A&M, OK and Ark OK could have Texas, A&M and Missouri I don't think any of the "bowls" will be eliminated, but some of the made up rivalries will be.
You’re 100% right

We aren’t getting Alabama because they 100% will have Auburn and Tennessee

My pod system is the best solution.
LSU would play every team in the conference every two years.
And every 4 years every SEC team would have rotated and played every team at least one time in their home stadium.
This is based on a 9 game SEC schedule.

Threads like this crack me up.
It is almost like no one was alive for the "bridge scheduling" fiasco we went through just ten years ago.
Bama alum are in charge of all of this. Like the bridge scheduling, Bama will have the easiest route while their rivals will have the hardest ones. They will even alter a schedule the summer before a season starts if they need to help Bama (See LSU/UGA in 2013 after Bama should have lost to UGA in the 2012 SECCG).
You folks crack me up.

It’s not short sighted at all. It’s actually the opposite. While you can’t predict the future you do have a good idea who will be consistently at the top with resources and history. Of course you will have outliers from the bottom be good for a couple years and the top being bad for a couple years.
In the long term it all averages out and the top tier teams will be the best teams in the league more often than not.

I looked at this the other day. Because some teams at the margins can rise and fall, I would propose that the SEC reviews the conference record every 4 years to establish the top 8 and bottom 8. Then you get your 3 “permanent” opponents, but they are only officially permanent for the next 4 years.
The current top 8. Base in the last 4 years including this one are:
Georgia
Alabama
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida
OLE MISS
Tennessee
So each of those would get 2 from this list, and 1 from the remainder.
If that is the approach, I could see LSU getting Alabama, ole Miss and Arkansas - because we need an opponent for thanksgiving weekend, and A&M should have Texas there.

That might be the worst brackets I’ve seen. Oklahoma and Texas, Bama Auburn, Georgia florida, will play each other every year.

I’ve seen people here claim Bama will be one but that is moronic. Bama will have Tennessee and Auburn so there’s no way the SEC gives them 3 tough permanent opponents.
With the three we have and our current trajectory, that’s 3-0 most years and a leg up on everyone else.
FWIW, it's only a slight advantage because you will be rotating thru the rest of the conference so fast. Our non permanent opponent schedule will be slightly harder than others because the good teams will be rotating faster. But it is a net advantage. Also, you have to assume a&m will eventually get their shite together.

Do you all see SEC as 2 divisions or going to 3 pods?
Posted on 11/15/22 at 9:03 am to TDTiger225
TAMU has only beaten LSU once since coming in the SEC. That other "win" was complete bullshite and anyone with unbiased eyes will tell you the refs absolutely fricked LSU in that game. Multiple times.

As another poster mentioned, I see each team having four permanent opponents. Ours will not include Alabama
Posted on 11/15/22 at 9:09 am to lsutigerelizabeth
Nobody on here knows how it will be broken up and whatever we think makes the most sense will likely not be the case. It will be about matchups that are good for TV and ratings in the end.

Bama
Tenn
Auburn
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Texas
Oklahoma
Missouri
Miss State
LSU
Ole Miss
Arkansas
TAMU
Or I could see them putting TAMU in with Texas due to rivalry history. LSU is tough to slot because they don't really have any big true rivalries. Battle for the Boot is yawn. They almost have to create a big rivalry for LSU but surely they'll put someone with us that's a big university. Texas/Oklahoma will be together no matter what and who they are against is tough to slot because you don't know where they'll be 5 years from now. I could see them sliding LSU in there to create a big rivalry.

No, it will not be.
I still think we either go east/west and then just rotate all of the east teams.
OR
We got pods, we won't be in the pod with Texas and TAM, and if they split the two Texas schools up, that will look forever weak to both of them. Has to be us, the two Miss schools and Arky I think.
