The least talented RB I can think of is Brosette but he ran for 1000 yards so you can't really argue that he was bad.

Yeah I’d say not in the last 20+ years have we had a “bad” RB. But I do think there were some seasons where our RB didn’t necessarily scare defenses like Brossette in 2018, Magee early 2014, Hester/Keiland in 2006 (partly bc we threw so much).

Richard Murphy did everything he was asked. And knowing him now, I can’t agree with ya. He’s a great guy and works his arse off. However, he may have been one of our less physically talented guys but that’s just bc we’ve had some monsters. My vote would have to go to Alfred blue. I expected huge things from him during hills suspension but it never happened.

Will never say a former Tiger is bad but I expected greater things from Mike Ford.

Had family who played with him at Leesville

I mean a guy like Tae Provens or Jakhori Gore transferred since the writing was on the wall. Lanard Fournette was mediocre. No one who gets major carries at LSU is “not good.”

how can a guy who played 5yrs in the NFL be "objectively bad"?

Either Jay Johnson or Jermaine Sharp in the Curley days. Sharp did have ~800yds one year. Johnson was our leading rusher in '93 with 558yds.

Those guys never played or barely played. I'm talking about when was the last time LSU had to put a bad RB in the game consistently?

It's been almost 30 years since we've started a bad running back. We've had years where our running game was pretty average but it's been a long, long time since it was bad.

Damn dude lol. I remember one year it seemed like every time he touched the ball it was a huge play, Murphy is not the guy you’re looking for here lol.

I would say that this is a tough question though, every rb that has played big minutes for us has been a stud so idk. Thinking back, a lot of the rbs have been a lot better than him.

Michael Ford when he had the chance. Thought he would be a starter and monster. Overall we have been blessed since the GOAT #3!

It seems like some posters are conflating guys who didn't necessarily live up to their own subjective expectations with discussion of "objectively bad" RB's.

I agree with this. Brossette wasn't "bad" by any means. But he wasn't a game changer (or at least the focal point of the offense) in the mold of guys like Hill, Fournette, Guice Broussard, or even Clyde this past season. Magee and Hilliard were as well until Fournette took over in 2014.

Then again, I think we as fans got a little spoiled in that from 2012 (Hill) through 2017 (Guice), with 3 years of Fournette in between, we saw the guys who have the three highest career yards per carry averages of all full time RB's to ever play at LSU. It's difficult for anyone to match that level of production.

This is why going into the last two years everyone was saying LSU’s rb’s are a question mark I didn’t agree. Basically since Faulk has been at LSU the rb group has been either very good or great every year. Sometimes it is based off of one bell cow sometimes it is RB by committee but either way for LSU it always works out.
