The ‘03 championship team was throwing up the “L”...so at least the last 15 years or so.

I recall seeing it in pics with Fournette when Frank Wilson was recruiting him. Don't remember it with any players before Fournette though.

All the Texas schools have their own hand sign, probably stemmed from that.

Nah, this has been going on since the 2003 season. This is the only photo I have on me right now, but guys like Tyson Jackson, Adrian Mays, Chad Lavalais, etc started that this year.




Back then, they all understood that in order for it to look like an "L" they needed to use their right hand! Now we've got guys looking at their own left hand, seeing an "L" and throwing up a flat-bottom "J" or something.

First time I saw it was the 2003 Cotton Bowl vs Texas. I believe that’s the origin.
