When did the Problems Begin?

Not too long ago, I remember threads popping up about this LSU team perhaps vying for the best regular season record in school history...and now we might not see the post season.
When did the bleeding start?
It almost seems as though Ranaudo's return was the beginning of the end. It seems as though the team was maintaining and looking ahead to his return and when his return failed, the team failed too.
Obviously, this team's problems run much more deep than one man (or the return of one man) but what was the straw that broke the camel's back?

when we started playing good teams.

Ole Miss Series. Yes, we lost two tough games to Auburn, but we swept Bama after that and they just took two of three against Ole Miss.

He pitched against Tennessee, so I would disagree with that, since we swept them.

Ole Miss series combined with loss to UNO. I think Florida would have beaten us either way, but would have been competitive if we had beaten UNO and won at least one or two against Ole Miss.

Ranaudo's inability to come back from injury has made the pitching staff ineffective.
When you can't get it done on Fri, it effects the rest of the series. I think he was rushed back to Fri before he was ready. He should have stayed on Sun.
LSU scored enough runs to beat UK twice this weekend and scored enough in the Ole Miss series as well.

Our schedule was favorable early on, but the warning signs were there. We got by against weaker teams. Giving up 21 runs to Kansas concerned me, but the Auburn series confirmed my fears that we had big problems with this pitching staff. I held out hope Ranaudo's return would solve our problems.

Kansas?
LSU recovered from Illinois last year.

Arkansas disagrees.

I think there is a couple of ways to look at this. I think the KU series was crucial in that we could not beat a mediocre team without AR. That weekend was not good and showed me that our staff was not ready to step up to replace him.
I think that after that, we came to the verge so many time of being able to put it all together, but every time we got close something happened to take the air out of our sails. I think the OM series was just the icing on the cake. I just felt like that was when we were close a couple of times before and had a little bad luck at AU, but hit the wall in Oxford and it was downhill ever since.

Ole Miss series--- Ranaudo's inability to go deep into games

I am surprised nobody has mentioned this, but Ott hasn't been the same since he pitched 7 innings in relief against Alabama.

Honestly, Ott has not been the same pitcher this year. We faced some pretty middle of the road competition early and he was on and off. He has been more off than on in SEC play.

Wrong. We beat Arkansas 2 out of 3 without Ranaudo. We ran off a 32-6 (or something like that) record. In baseball, I don't care who your competiton is, that's impressive. Now this team can't even win 1 game.
If LSU was just losing some series, and were say 5-7 in the last 12 SEC games, you might have a point. But this team just has zero confidence and have gone 1-11 in the last 12 SEC games.
This team can score runs on Friday's, but not the rest of the weekend. This team can pitch well for several innings at a time, but not for a complete 9 innings. This team can hit like crazy to get on base, but can't get a hit with runners in scoring position.
Simple put, I'm bewildered.

It began when we lost some awesome upperclassmen and some promising freshmen to the MLB draft. It continued with AR's injury. It multiplied when he was unable to recover his motion post-injury. It furthered when Ott became merely "human". It became irreversable when the teams confidence was totally shattered. Throw in a mixture of zero baseball fortune in key moments and none of the buttons Maneri has pushed working, and you got yourself a stinker of a second half of a season.

Really, the team played this weekend like it has all year, with the exception Ott was off. If he was his usual self, we win 2 of 3 against kentucky like we should

I understand your point, and while accurate technically, it ignores the realities of the issues we are confronting.
This LSU team playing anywhere close to it's potential sweeps this Kentucky team. Kentucky walked 12 batters yesterday...and we scored only 4 runs. That's almost impossible.
With all of that, you are correct that if Ott does his job, we still win 2 of 3. But, that's kind of the point. If it's not one thing (starting pitching) it's another (Ott) while something else (inability to take advantage of 12 walks against Sunday pitching, umpire interference, poor umpiring, Ross throwing a ball away from the pitchers mound in a critical spot in the 8th, etc. etc. etc.) somehow keeps the game close enough for us to impode. This has been a very strange year.

Oh I know there are issues, as you stated, if its not one thing its another. Didn't mean to ignore those.

When Ranaudo's injury first flared up. The rest of the staff did not pick up the slack very well, but the thinking was that maybe Ranaudo could get back into form, and by then the extra experience would have toughened the rest of the staff up and made them better. Well, nobody ever got better ... except for the competition.
