re: When did LSU fans become so invested in MBB??

Ah yes, how dare we have high expectations, especially since in the 80s and 90s are fans were camping outside the Pmac to see the tigers contend for titles year after year.
Doesn’t matter that we didn’t win one though, since it was SO COOL to camp out for games that Kentucky saw as just another game on the schedule
I’m sad to see tiger fans like you settle for LSU basketball. Definition of mediocore
So do you consider Missouri a relevant football team?

I said modern history matters. Please keep up
Do you not understand that until 2003, LSU hadn't won a NC in football since 1958. 45 years. So, from your ridiculous narrative, they might as well given up somewhere along the path. That is your thought, whether you realize it or not.
But since we won NC in football in 2003, 2007, 2019, we can care about modern history?

I’d say the turn of the century is a pretty good measure of a sport’s success, with a 25 year sample size
Not sure if you noticed, but nobody’s talking about Nebraska’s or Miami’s run anymore because it was SO LONG AGO.
Modern history matters bud, to pretend it doesn’t is ignorant. The game has changed

Your whole contention is that since LSU MBB doesn't have the historic success, it won't ever happen. -- that is stupid AF.
But... Miami/Nebraska football success can go away. Gonzaga - even Duke - can get on the come up for their trajectory on the MBB landscape.
When you look into the mirror, does it laugh back at you?

Keep up, we’re talking about the overall of LSU’s basketball program using modern history since the turn of the century.
The trend is not good. LSU has not cared about basketball, and it doesn’t seem LIKELY things will change in the future.
Mulkey was used as an example of someone to turn a program around. Can we find a unicorn hire for men’s basketball? The chances are slim to none. No elite recruits are coming to LSU. How many players do we have in the NBA? How many are great? Those things matters to recruit.
I’ll simplify for you mirror man, lack of interest from fans+lack of success on the court + lack of talent in the NBA+lack of average recruiting= no big changes coming anytime soon.

How many does Auburn have? Tennessee? Ole Miss?
Nobody's asking to be Duke but we should put forth some effort to not be a dumpster fire.

We should, but we aren’t. Which is why I’m confused why most of you think we’re gonna start now

I have been a LSU basketball fan all my life. I was a kid when during the Shaq and Chris Jackson era and have always been a LSU basketball fan. I am not as big of a fan of basketball as I am football, but I still enjoy it and want them to do well. The last three years have been the least interest I have been.. Which is sad.

But other posters are so intent that fake NIL numbers are going to change it.
I’m a die hard LSU MBB fan, but also understand that football, baseball, basketball aren’t a pick or choose proposition.
Even with Mulkey, who I respect at every level of her career, from HS, to college, to assistant, to HC at two stops doesn’t make WBB profitable in any way. It’s silly to think you can’t be more successful or change the level of a program. Sue, Pokey, Chance, unnamed. The opportunity is there.

quote:lol! Tell me you’re under 30 without telling me you’re under 30. LSU’s basketball success way pre-dates the baseball success. Besides basketball nationally is way more popular and lucrative than baseball.
Basketball at lsu has always been an afterthought to football and baseball

I literally listed every season and how they finished since 93. If you’ll see, the good finishes were listed along with the bad. That’s the exact opposite of cherry picking. That’s giving you all the data.
You listed a final 4 team as “first in the west”
Keep obsessing over bad single A baseball though

quote:one of the greatest nights in LSU BBall history. We cut down nets as conference champs that day .cannot find a full game replay online anywhere. To Alleva's credit, he stilll showed up. Where is Scotty?
Brother, that Vanderbilt home game was unlike anything I have seen at LSU. 10k+ chanting "F Joe Alleva" and "we want Wade". Yea they cared lmao.

Is this supposed to be a college baseball burn? Totally got me man. Good for you or something
Is this where I tell you to keep obsessing over a shitty program in a shitty sport? Or does that only cut one way for you?

That’s not “giving all the data” as you claimed to be doing
It’s withholding extremely relevant information to minimize accomplishments.
No one cares about the standings in the west good or bad.
People do care bout final fours. Mizzou considered themselves a “basketball school” and doesn’t have one
Nc state who EVERYONE would consider a “basketball school” has the same amount as us. And has the same amount of final fours since 2000.
Hell we’ve been a a final four more recently than Indiana AND additionally a sweet 16 more recently than IU
To intentionally not mention a final four is idiotic much less other things like sweet 16s

They aren’t invested, which is why lsu doesn’t invest in it. People here love to complain about shite. Basketball is the obvious target

It is. I listed the SEC finish for each season. I think winning the SEC is a good thing, no?

If you want to choose to look at it that way, that’s on you bud

People care about final fours here because it makes our program look better than it actually is. Can you remind me what you said about leaving our pertinent data. I forgot?
quote:

There was nothing “intentional” about it. But what you and yours want to do is “intentionally ignore” the fact that lsu has lived in the cellar more than they haven’t the last 30+ years. The final fours over 4 decades have been an aberration and are not indicative of what the program actually has been which is why I listed every season to give a more accurate depiction. Adding a notation that lsu went to a final four in 2006 literally adds nothing to that context. Listing all the seasons was to show how terrible the team had been and how often that occurred.
People like you want to gloss over that because that once time 20 years ago we went to a final four that only lsu fans remember at this point.

People bring up final fours because performance in the tournament is what matters in basketball
Just ask calipari
Calling a final four team 1st in the west and that’s it would be like listing the 2000 baseball team as “2nd in the SEC”

1980's???
LSU vs UNLV???? Versus the shark? One of the highest scoring college games ever.
Blanton?
Shaq?
Jackson?
Auburn's Barkley......fat and unstoppable. The mound of rebound. LSU students bringing suitcases and Donut boxes to the game. Throwing donut boxes on the court. Barkley making a nasty slam....runs by our student section flipping the bird. Freaking old school classic mayhem.
LSU basketball was absolutely thumping in 80's and 90's!!!!
You have no idea!! Mike the Tiger repelling from the cieling with fireworks booming INSIDE the PMac.
You seriously have no idea ....
And before all that...a fellow named Bob Pettite. And a few others.....like Pistol Pete.....
