We got very good in 80s but didnt win NC. Owned the 90s. And won 2 NCs in the 2000s. What the frick else do you want them to do.

like Doc Fenton's post, and so based on these posts are we the Florida of SEC football? won nothing until 1990's but a dominant program since? NOT saying this is bad thing, but sounds similar?

Aside from Mississippi State, Texas and the Pac-10 schools, no one took CBB seriously prior to the late 1980s.

Program of the 90s for sure. Last decade saw 1 championship and a few non post season years. If you dont even make the post season its hard to consider yourself elite. We are still a great program but we lack the consistency.

Sooo professional teams like the Yankees, Lakers, Packers and Celtics aren't elite programs because they have four or five year stretches when they don't make the playoffs??? Everyone has rebuilding years but over time if you are winning titles at a pace like no one has ever seen you are ELITE. Besides LSU has won a title in last three years, its not like we have gone away. Damn what do you people want.

I still cant explain why we even got this far this year. We cant hit, cant hit for power. Baserumning is attrocious. Our outfielders run into each other on a regular basis. We have absolutly no arms in the outfield. And our 3rd base/hitting coach should be fired. But CPM got something going om so lets frickING enjoy it.

IMO since our first CWS appearance under Skip Bertman 26 years ago in 1986.
We made several more Omaha appearances until our first CWS championship in 1991, and won four more titles in 1993, 1996, 1997 and 2000; and very nearly had another in 1998 (which would have been three in a row!)

We have not been as dominant in the 2000's, winning two titles in 2000 and 2009, but have gone to a Regional on almost a yearly basis.

I would say LSU is one of the three most dominant powerhouse college baseball programs since 1986.

I would say in the late 80's when we started going to Omaha. Some will say it wasn't until we won some national titles and my reply is FSU is an elite program right? They have never won.

LSU baseball to Florida football is a fair comparison. USC is the best all time, but they're kinda like Notre Dame football. They've won a ton of titles, but have done nothing for a long time.

By 1999, LSU was one of the Top 3 programs of all time. Had 4 titles in the bank, and was perennially in the CWS. At this point, LSU is about to pass USC as The Best program of all time.

They were good with Mark Pryor. I don't remember much else.

But the moment that really put LSU on the map was the doubleheader victory over Texas A&M at the College Station regional on May 28, 1989, thus advancing to the CWS for the 3rd time in 4 years.

Agreed. Other teams go to the CWS and fade but that day vs TA&M cemented that LSU BB was something special.

To refresh, TA&M had an incredible record that year, we were playing at College Station, facing elimination on Sunday (?), and beat the Aggies 2X in one day to advance to the CWS. (if my details are flawed, please correct. TIA)
