I started going to games in 85 and did not stop until the late 90's. It was damn fun watching it grow under Skip Bertman from day one.
Well, technically, "day one" was in 1984.

WHOA...pump the brakes. USC has 12 titles to LSU's 6 and Texas's 6. LSU would pass Texas as the unquestioned #2 all time program with another title. USC is still waaaaaay ahead.
Yeah, kinda like Princeton is ahead of everybody in football national championships. USC has maybe one championship since the 1970s.

I know this has a ton of subjectivity to it
No, there really isn't.

IMO , it was after the 1993 title. We had been to the CWS 4 times before finally winning in 1991 and then won the whole thing again two years later. There was no denying that LSU was in an elite group then and the program still kept growing.
With that said to this day it amazes me what Skip put togethor and what Mainieri is continuing.I was a SR at LSU in 1984 for Bertman's first year. There was an immediate jump in interest, and competitiveness, too in year one but nothing remotely close now. Prior to Bertman's arrival you could wander over to the Box for any game and sit wherever you wanted to. Lighting was poor and a lot of in-state teams would have almost as many fans as LSU did.Tulane may have even had more fans for a game in '83.
Absolutely remarkable what Bertman did. He didn't restore anything. He built LSU baseball.Yea, there were some good teams from time to time over the year and a few SEC titles, but only one NCAA appearance (1975).Baseball before Bertman was about as popular as the golf team was.
