LSU is about to pass USC as The Best program of all time
WHOA...pump the brakes. USC has 12 titles to LSU's 6 and Texas's 6. LSU would pass Texas as the unquestioned #2 all time program with another title. USC is still waaaaaay ahead.

They were good with Mark Pryor. I don't remember much else.
They are kind of like UCLA basketball. They are still #1/1A, but they haven't done shite in forever. They owned to 60s and 70s, and started to decline in the 80s. Regardless, they have 10 titles since 1960 (only 1 since 1978 though).

No one else gave a rats arse about CBB in prior to the 1980s. It was USC and a bunch of little league teams.
The real comparison is the mid-1980s until now, and LSU is the premier CBB over the last 1/4 century.

That doesn't tell the whole story. Where does Yale rank in the list of greatest college football teams ever? The fact is, USC has ONE title in the last 35 years. And then there is this from wiki:
quote:
USC did not make the tournament in 2003 or 2004. 2005 4-3 .571 Won the Long Beach Regional; Lost to Oregon St. in the Corvallis Super Regional USC has not made the tournament since 2005.
That is a decade of total suckage.

does everyone still say notre dame is a better program then say florida in football?
because i don't because i wasn't here in the damn 60's and 70's
i do remember the irish being somewhat relevant when i was very young 80's
same with basketball and ucla
i say north carolina/duke as the best programs

This is pretty much exactly what my previous 2 posts say. Agreed.

Do you think Bama is better than Florida? They sucked for over a decade before Saban.

Those who said 1989 would be correct. To refresh some of your memories...
1989 would be the 1st or 2nd most heartbreaking moments in A&M Athletics history. 1975 loss to Arky in Football could be #1 as well.
In 1989, A&M started out 40-0 in Baseball. By the time Regionals rolled around we were 55-4. By the time Regional Championship Sunday rolled around, we were 58-4. All we had to do was beat LSU once.
Then came Ben McDonald and Curt Leskanic and more Ben McDonald.
LSU double dipped A&M and LSU went on and used that springboard to greatness. A&M meanwhile has been in and out of the CWS but never the top of the mountain.
A&M was so strong that year, that they are the only team not to make the CWS to finish the season ranked #2.

i give a slight edge to florida but if bama keeps it up that will def change
i know bama won all those titles but i wasn't here for them... this answer will be different for somebody that is in their 40's to 50's im sure.

I'm in my early 30s, and I say Bama blows Florida out of the water as a program. Bama has won as many titles since 1990 as Florida, and their history prior to that is no contest.

Remember that like it was yesterday Ball Gravy.
I remember thinking, "holy hell, we have to play on the road against a 58-4 team?"
When Pat Garrity caught the last out, Jim Hawthorne (radio play-by-play) went nuts.
It was truly amazing. And I honestly could not help but feel bad for the Aggie players. We would have been crushed by a loss like that too, any team would.

Metry....
If you bring up that 1989 weekend to Aggie fans, it might bring a conditioned fit of cuss words, some will cry, some might fight you right there....
