It’s probably now considered a waste of resources. Perhaps just the University putting all their eggs in one basket.

I think that would be cool as shite, have a no frills game in TS the night before a home game. Only open up the gold seats on one side. Charge like $10 a ticket general admission, have cheap basic concessions. Cokes, popcorn, and hotdogs.

Also we wouldn't have Will Campbell, Emery Jones, Mason Taylor or Harold Perkins playing for our varsity team.

So likely 2 more loses and not a west championship

Are you saying there were no Freshman football games after 1974? You are dead wrong. They 1000% had freshman games in 1979.

When Pete Maravich was a freshman, the cow barn was packed to the rafters for the freshman game.

The varsity was happy, telling each other they’d be playing in front of a packed house.

They’d come out for the varsity game with maybe 75 people in the stands.

The next night was December 1, 1973. We would rather forget what happened that night.
Yes, I was there in Tulane Stadium.

14-0 Slime.

That roster is a great pic. Went to school K-12 with Rodney Guillot’s daughter, worked with Roy Winston’s younger brother at GSU and knew Jimmy Field from days past when my wife worked @ Gary, Field, Landry and Dornier.

I recall, perhaps in the 1960s. that the freshman team played University of Mexico varsity in Mexico City and beat them about 40-0.

They were still having these games in the NE in the ‘90’s.

Several D3 schools still have JV teams, at least on the East coast

I know John Scotto. Back up right guard.

He is not in good health these days. Cool to see his name on that roster.

No it wasn't. Bruce Hemphill, a former LSU WR, was the Freshman Coach in 1981. They actually put ads in the Reveille for students to try out for the Baby Bengals trying to fill the roster.
In 81, Freshman played four games:
Houston
Nicholls
Ole Miss
Tulane

Couldn't help noticing Chaille Percy on that roster.

Worked with him on a major project.

His football nickname was "scrap iron" which he couldn't believe I remembered.

One of the more pleasant people ever.

Remember the end of Freshman games resulting from both the new rule of Freshmen being able to play, but that followed the smaller schools ganging up on the majors at the NCAA and voting for the 30 limit on recruits per year.

There was a time when LSU could recruit 40 players a year, with 80 the limit for any two years.

The 30 limit really caught the attention of Bear Bryant who knew why it was done and lobbied for at least 35 per year, but wasn't successful.

I was thinking more on the lines of all the freshman and underclassmen that don’t get any playing time. Not lettermen.
