We should check with Venables to see if he would like a change of scenery.
Vegetables ain't going nowhere, he's attached at the hip to Dumbo or Dabo. As for Daronte Jones, the only thing I can say is now he can put down that he was a DC at a major university. The guy was learning to be a DC, and you could see it. He waited too long to put in a blitz package and all. This defense could have been playing like this earlier on. But the best of luck to the guy.

Daronte will be fine. This was an OJT year for him, and it really looks like he gets it.

Once we name Aranda(hopeful) then he may be retained. Otherwise he will not be. I am impressed with he defenses so I wouldn’t mind the first scenario. He would be mentored by a D master that already believes in Daronte as he is the one who recommended him to Coach O.

Depends if O was handcuffing him the first few games or not.

I never had an opinion on him, but he's seemed pretty decent.

If they continue to play like this last two games he had build a great resume whether he stays at LSU or not

Pretty much this. If the new HC chooses to keep him on staff, cool. That would be a pretty clear confirmation (at least in my mind) that he was indeed handcuffed and is better than what we saw earlier in the season.

If the new HC doesn’t keep him on staff, I think the stop at LSU will still be a net positive for his career and I wish him the best.

It will be interesting to see if the aggressive defense continues to work this well vs. A&M. I think he’s been able to cause some confusion the last couple of weeks partly because we have been giving looks that we haven’t shown on film. Eventually that element of surprise wears off and it comes down to the in-game chess match.

He’s shown improvement, but we can do better than a rookie who took 8 games to realize that blitzing an opposing QB can actually be a good thing. You NEVER handcuff a new coach by telling him he has to retain members of the previous coach’s staff.

If they just put in the blitzing in the last two weeks as it was reported then he’s a failure. Kirby did a presentation and talked about everything they install during fall camp. It sounded like our staff had no idea how to implement a system over the course of a spring and then fall camp.

Maybe. But I still think a lot of the early season issues were because Ed wasn’t letting Jones do what he wanted.

Pisses me off it took four losses to start being aggressive. He needs to go along with the rest of the staff

Had we had an aggressive game plan similar to what he drew up for Alabama and Arkansas, I think we beat Auburn. And if we’d beaten Auburn, this season would have looked very, very different.

What's your feelings on Daronte Jones now?

That he is either a very good defensive coordinator that just needed a few games to get experience and progressed as the season went on

OR

He is an idiot for thinking what he rolled out the first 2 months of the season would work and finally smartened up. I would like to think it’s the latter but who fricking knows.

I wouldn't be mad if the next coach retained Jones. I also wouldn't be mad if the next coach let Jones go in favor of his own guy. It should not be a topic of discussion as a prerequisite with the new coach we're bringing in.
This is how I feel too.

I kinda feel like he's earned the shot to be interviewed by the incoming coach, and if we finish out the year playing like this he may just get that interview.

Absolutely doesn't merit being forced on anyone.

If he's kept on, and we play like this next year, I will be satisfied. And if he's dumped, I will be concerned about how long it will take to get back up to speed- and hope it won't take too long.

Lol Coach O had restriction on blitzing. He had restrictions on 3 man fronts. Daronte could not coach how he wanted until these past few weeks. It’s a reason Coach O is gone. Now you see what Daronte been wanting to do, he didn’t just wake up and started blitzing and running odd fronts. Coach O didn’t allow it until now.

No change.

In over his head.

Improved over Bo Peep, but not anywhere near qualified to be a DC in the SEC/SEC. (If your goal is a Championship)

Acceptable as a DB Coach only........

I think you may be in over your head just trying to give a coherent answer to a simple question.

Too late for first impressions! Stunk the whole year with most of our best talent in the first few games. What was Coach O thinking when hiring both coordinators that had absolutely zero experience in the position hired for? Answer: He wasn't thinking!
