I used to be a die-hard New York Mets fan. I remember when Art Shamsky, a hero of the 1969 World Series run, went through an agonizing 0 for 30 slump in July of 1970. It was hard to stomach day after day of 0-4 and 0-3 plate appearances, with scads of strikeouts and double plays.
