What's the real story with Kardell Thomas?

This kid came in with all the hype and was destined to become one of LSU's best OL of all time, but he's almost an afterthought now. Was he majorly overrated, injury prone, lazy or what? When LSU has had an injury or a suspension on the OL, I never hear this kid's name brought up. What's the real story behind "Mr. Pancake"?

beat up on small time high school opponents but was an early peaker who aint that good at this level. The injury just compounded that.

Broke his leg right before freshman season. I still have faith in the kid, that's a tough one to come back from when you're that large. Luckily he still has 4x years to play.

Out of shape
never healthy
was boosted by pancaking 2A kids
wasn't as good as advertised when facing better competition or hasn't shown it yet
it's put up or shut up year this year if he doesn't transfer out

He has 4 years of eligibility left he has plenty of time and is coming off a tough injury. Rooting for him to fulfill his potential and glad he chose to be a Tiger.

He also bullied the best talent in the country at all-star games and practices. Guy just needs to really bust his arse to get into playing shape. Post-injury conditioning apparently has been disastrous.

Hanny said yesterday he has basically given up on him. This was when they were talking about OL that will have to contribute next year.

The way he sounded when he said it gave me the impression that the injury isn't the only issue.

I’m kind of tired of hearing the injury story. Unless the medical staff at LSU don’t know what the hell they doing. He broke a bone in his lower leg. Shouldn’t take but about 3 months to get back to full speed if he was working hard and being rehabbed properly. He played mop up duty in a couple of games this year.

It's not really the injury, but the post injury conditioning.

I don't know if it's lack of drive with the kid or what, but he's fat and weak.

At best:

His injury and subsequent recovery have not gone well but there's hope that he can get back into form and be a contributor for this team

At worst:

His injury was a set back that he just wont recover from.

He actually started dropping in the recruiting rankings when he went to these because when he went up against the best of the best he was getting beat. Doesn’t mean he is a bad player or a bust just means that he wasn’t quite at the level we thought he was when he was destroying kids in low classification Louisiana football.

He definitely needs to step up next season or get moving along. He said a couple things during all the BLM crap and it didn't sit right with me and it was disrespectful toward O also. I was a big Kardell fan when he arrived, but that has faded and I'm ready to see some production on the field or he can leave and free up a scholarship for another player.

So imagine that's what happened. He's back healthy by January but has almost certainly put on weight as a lineman with a leg injury. He's back at square 1 for spring practice then spring practice is shut down 3 days in. Now he's sitting around for months until fall practice likely adding more weight. Dude needs a regular offseason and fall season more than just about anyone on the team.

We have like 35 free scholarships. We need lineman.

That is not why he dropped really actually, he one bad showing I think? But mostly very good. He really dropped because he's a pure guard with no OT in his future and they're not ranked as high.

ETA:
And there was a comment or two about "bad weight" even then.
