Good coach but a douche bag. Good fit for an underdog mentality program like UT because they buy into it and feed off of it. Would not be a good fit at LSU.

He seems to be a douche @ times, but his interviews tell a different story. He is ALL about his players & team, that goes a long way towards a winning attitude.
He may be a douche, but I would love to call him LSU's douche.

His punkish ways aside, what accomplishments over how long a period of time best makes him a great candidate for what is still one of the best jobs in the country?

He has been a coach for 4 years and hasn’t won anything. Did anyone even know his name before this year or maybe last year?

If you want to crown him, crown him. I expect more out of this hire.

LSU was the underdog all year and even embraced the moniker this post season.

I don't mind a coach standing up for is team, but I think that quality is way over-blown. My problem with Mainieri, personally, was not about lack of defending his players. It was his seeming lack of interest, in general. When LSU looked like they were going through the motions at times, over the last few years, I wanted to see him direct some fire under the butts of his players. But, as you mentioned, he just had this passive aggressive approach of telling the media what he thought of his players' effort, rather than handling it in-house.

With Vitello, he's not like Mainieri, and there is a lot of energy there that I appreciate and want as our next coach. But he can't just be a whiner. There is a difference between fighting for your team-because you're getting screwed and you have the balls to hold umpires accountable- and making constant excuses. That's whining.

As I've stated multiple times, I'll take the guy, because I think he can coach and recruit. But, man, I hope he grows up.

Hes been to the CWS in 4 years as many times as Bianco has in 21. And he’s doing it at a school that is historically terrible at baseball.

That comparison is asinine.

His demeanor reminds me of Nick Saban. Whiny, everyone that doesn't give me what I want is Hitler

Interesting that some are quick to compare his resume to Bianco’s but not to ANY of the other realistic candidates. Many make it out to be either Bianco or Vitello. I hope that’s not the case.

At this point, LSU baseball isn’t exactly automatic favorites in any game. Any coach that comes in will have to change the mentality of the program. No disrespect to Pawl.

I’m also happy with Godwin or McDonnell. Godwin has not been to a CWS. McDonnell obviously has the best resume. The comparison to Bianco stems from him apparently being a top candidate if not THE top candidate.

Give me Nick Saban’s as many like to say “whiny arse” and winning any day. As long as it’s making the program better.
