What’s the difference between Neilson and Jones?

Both were NFL position coaches last year.

But Neilson is a “home run hire” and Jones is “underwhelming.”

Like any of you know how smart Jones is. Ed interviewed him and was impressed. People hating on this hire have never heard him speak or have any clue what his football knowledge is.

In the nfl you either have good players or you don’t. You can’t blame bad performance on a position coach. If the GM doesn’t prioritize your position group, are you a shitty coach?

We need a good football mind.

He appears to be young, innovative, and will be able to relate to our guys. Trust!

One showed out at every level and built a top tier position group in the JGL the last three years despite a rash of injuries.

The other managed to rank second to last one year and mid 20s the other two. Yeah, they are the same.

Because i’m an expert! I played 4 years of hard nose peewee football, and i can guarantee you this is a horrible hire!

Feel like Jones's prior success is underwhelming. Nielsen has the saints and NC state success.

Possible that Jones really showed that he can greatly connect with our players. And maybe he'd coach for cheap.

Isn’t saying much. 99% of us could study a playbook in Madden and Ed would be mind blown

Are you serious? Nielsen has churned out elite D line units everywhere he’s been. Including places that had very little d line success until he got there.

Jones has been a part of four straight shitty secondaries. Including places that a strong record of secondary success until he got there.

In college you either have good players or you don’t.

See how that works?

I was a little more excited about having a DL guy than a DB guy, but to be honest we might have been best served by an LB guy. O is a great DL coach just can’t spend all his time there. Raymond is obviously a capable DB coach.

So for my money it’s the optics of the fit, but guess we’ll find out soon enough.

good excuse for his units not being good. Nielsen turned trey Hendrickson into a beast. Good coaches do that bring out talent apparently he didnt do that in the nfl

Ehh, the Vikings switching out vet CBs for two rookie starters is a handcuff for a DB coach though.

This only happened because the Vikings wanted to help LSU, because they owe a debt to Louisiana’s flagship school and wanted to “work together” with the university

We had great players until this year apparently. When all of the sudden we had shitty players. Except the some of those shitty players actually decent under a competent DC compared to Pelini.

It’s a symbiotic relationship. Good players v good coaching and bad players v bad coaching don’t exist independent of each other

I`m white but am embarrassed at the feeling I get that
racism in guise of most qualified is happening on this board. My Brother in law had a dental practice in BR and he
told me majority of his patients would never accept a
black QB ,they would just tolerate him.I get the same feeling about this hire .Its 2021 and we havent changed
our ways.

Maybe Nielsen's unit had better personnel due to better GM who drafted better.

Yet LSU has had multiple black QBs and 2 of the last 3 basketball head coaches were black.

I like the fact he is young and black, not sure about his experience and production but willing to give him a chance.

is that why a black guy (Freeman) was far and away the most popular choice on this board?
