Since Hudson has committed to LSU football and desires to also play basketball, what's the chance that Trey'Dez Green will change his mind and also choose to play basketball as well? I would love to see them both play basketball.

You cant do both in college, you pick 1 dominant one and play around in the other. The seasons overlap way too much to take both seriously where you miss a ton of 1 sport between games and practice time

Green struggled with the weight loss basketball necessitated

Not that they would play together anyway. Green will be gone in the NFL draft next spring

Strength and conditioning are so different for the two sports in college that it is difficult to be great at either if you do both.

Football and Baseball? Sure, though coaches will hate that you will be missing spring practice.

it's very hard to do overlapping sports
you miss all of the non conf games to get ready for sec play
Ben McDonald and Lyle Mouton did it but both ended up quitting basketball before they really hit their stride in baseball

a lot easier to do football and baseball and you've had some like Witten, Chad Jones, Jared Mitchell and they all had success
Spencer Ware and Maurice Hampton didn't translate as well

That's the S&C part. They want you to get strong but lean for conditioning purposes. Football wants you strong and thick, and conditioning is needed, but not at the expense of mass, particularly for a tight end.

A thinner WR might be able to do it. Maybe a CB. Not an interior guy in general.

With the #7 pick in the NFL Draft the New York Giants select TreyDez Green from Louisiana State University. There's your answer.

Yep. Football is burst sprinting for 10 seconds.

Basketball is full on running the court back and forth.

Green looked good in some limited playing time in BB but he made the right decision to focus on FB.

Then you have people like Barkley and Karl Malone who could run the floor at 250+. Not disputing your premise, but some people are just freaks.

For sure. There are always the anomalies. Remember Charlie Ward? Wins the Heisman but chooses to play pro basketball instead.

He's a potential 1st rounder in football. He should not play basketball.

Green wasn't out of place athletically in the few SEC games he played as a freshman. He could probably come in an contribute a few (less than 5) minutes per game, largely as a rebounder and defender. However, that minimal contribution probably isn't worth the effort when his professional hopes are in the NFL.

Hudson is a much higher rated basketball recruit than Green. Right now, his future looks to be in football. But that could change if he continues to grow. There aren't a ton of 6'8+ TEs in college or the NFL. It he gets to that height basketball may be the better path.

At the end of next football season he will be preparing for the NFL draft and will receive no benefit in playing basketball, as much as it would tittilate you and others to see your gridiron hero in a basketball uniform.

Green can be one of the best players in cfb this year if he sticks to football. And east top 10 draft pick.
