1998 for sure the biggest shock to me.
2012 - up 1 game to none over Stony Brook in the Supers.
1995 - Tigers were loaded with talent, but ran into a Rice team in the Regional with Lance Berkman, Jose Cruz Jr. and one really good pitcher.

Me too.... I think it was the year I learned that a top end pitcher is needed.....
Whichever year that may have been, I think it was the lineup.... not pitching staff that gave the illusion that the team was gonna do it...
Was it not the year after the year Pontiff passed away?

This, and as others said, it aint close. Toward the end of the first game we were still launchin HRs and on one replay you could see the USCw pitcher mouthin' "Oh my God".
this year proved.. no matter how good of a hitting team.. you need to be able to bunt....

The problem with that team was that it was the apex of the Gorilla Ball era. We not only couldn't bunt but we couldn't files a bunt. The weather changed in Omaha that year. It got cold. We couldn't hit the homers and SC small balled us to death.

1998 for sure. That first game against USC was the most fantastic game a fan could ever watch. You would think that with a team having 8 homers they would be dominating, but the Tigers had to come from behind twice. USC had a Grand Slam in that game, also. LSU had ten different players with home runs in that CWS. I was was there for those first 2 games and had to leave, and I left thinking LSU was going to win their third.

1998. I was at work listening to both games. God Damn Seth Etherton. And we blasted USCw the previous Saturday as well, but they took two from us and we missed the ship. That would have been a threepeat for sure if we got Arizona St.

I'd say 1987, 1989 (from the momentum of the A&M win), 1998, and maybe 2001 (damn Weenies) and last year, until the rain delay ruined Gausman against Thorny Brook....
