What would LSU recruits prefer to have? 1st round contract or bowl game?

Greedy being a 1st round pick means a lot more to the LSU brand than him playing in a bowl game.

Devin White says he'll take both.

It's not just about one player... although it's made to look that way.

If LSU loses to UCF, the masses will scream how f'd up the program is. So therefore the game isn't meaningless.

To be fair, the Rant will be screaming this whether we win or lose.

I don't know Greedy's situation.

That young man played hard for his team and put himself in a position to become a millionaire. If he is a first-round pick and survives 4-5 years in the league while living within his means, he could be set for life.

I cannot fault a young man for putting his financial future first. Does he have children, currently? If so, there's really no way to fault him for his decision.

Not playing the bowl is a bad look and it will affect his draft stock. That's the cost of his choice.

I think that they would prefer that a bunch of fan boys who have never contributed anything of substance to the LSU football program just keep quiet and keep out.

Greedy would have been a first rounder if he had gone to Ole Miss.

It won't affect his draft stock at all. I cant think of a single time where sitting out the bowl game effected any player's draft stock.

Leonard Fournette is one such case.

The top 2 picks this year will have both sat out the bowl. Hell, Bosa quit in the regular season.

Right, because it is a false choice.
They are not mutually exclusive.
I'll bet 90%+ of those with first round contracts played in a bowl game.

I'm ambivalent about Greedy's individual decision, but the OP's questions are ridiculous. LSU gets better recruits when LSU wins high-profile games. That includes the very high-profile upcoming game against UCF.

Unless you're Alabama or Clemson, you can't build a program based solely on playoff appearances. Even the best of the rest will appear, at most, once or twice every 5 years. An elite coaching staff persuades stars to play in high-profile bowl games that help build the program.

1st round contract and Playoff Appearance. Other bowl games are meaningless. They are fine for those returning to school the following year, but not for the studs looking to ball at the next level in the NFL.

Maybe - maybe not. I don't know and neither do you.

Well, how in the hell would you know if it did or not. Guys sometimes don't get drafted where everyone thinks they will be drafted. If Greedy gets drafted lower or higher than expected, we will not know the reason (if there is one). Maybe the procrastinators were just wrong. Point is, you don't know.

Without a bunch of "fanboys" there would be no program and no professional sports. Fans are the reason professional sports exist and pay people like Greedy millions of dollars to play a game for a living.
