There are a number of issues driving attendance:
Attendance is a growing issue at many schools.
Games are too long. In its constant drive for TV revenue, endless TV timeouts draw out what should be a 3ish our event to near 4 hours. This is only compound ed when you play rent a win teams at noon in the summer heat.
The out of stadium game viewing experience continues to improve.
Lsu has done almost nothing to improve the in game experience. Instead, they continue to cram more seats, more corporate boxes, and more adds into the game.
Fans arw different now, and they demand a better fan experience, which isn't provided. Problematic areas include, antiquated bathrooms, ancient TVs that make it impossible to enjoy a game while you wait in line for food. Often subpar concession products with bad service. No beer. Few water fountains. Frequent supply chain problems, especially on hot days.
People are also used to following multiple games, many of which will influence LSU down the road. But rather than give clips or anything more than token score updates, lsu takes every opportunity to advertise the newest official tiger sponsor.
The students don't care and the university never misses an opportunity to remind them of that. They don't let the band play, costantly complain about chants, and (the big one) LSU does not even let every student buy a game ticket. They split them, which is completely unacceptable. It is the students team first.

Personally I don't buy the traffic excuse, if you figure out where to park and where not to park, and what way you really need to go to get out of there, traffic isn't an issue regardless if you leave at half or at the end of the fourth.
You'll hit a little bit of it, but the people who are waiting two hours in traffic are just not going where they should be.

Beer
BS. If we had beer in the stadium, fans would complain at how much it costs and still leave early so they could get back to their tailgates.

Things are obv different now, with kids and being older when I'm ready to split in ready to GTFO. So usually I just stay at home and watch or go to a bar.
I agree but you and I get older and there are others to replace us. Life.
However, there is a fan base that thinks it's "cool" to leave at halftime. Why?
Don't blame traffic because you can park smarter. I walk at least a mile to ensure that I have an easy exit. Tailgate is coordinated.
Most leaving early are affluent people which are following a perceived notion that it's the "cool" thing to do. Ridiculous actually.
I only left early because of young children. I have not attended because I was displeased with the coaching staff in the past. But once there, I haven't walked out. It just makes our university look bad and sends a message to the players. Say what you want about trying to send a message to he coaching staff but it misses its target.

Technology is the culprit. Everyone can see every game from any place. It's no longer a unique and special experience. Why sit in that awful humidity when there are so many cheaper, more comfortable options.
When I lived out of state back in the 80s and 90s, I would get in my car and drive to a higher elevation if necessary to get the game on WWL or KWKH radio out of Shreveport. An LSU game on TV was a welcome event, it didn't happen every week. If you wanted to see LSU play, you went to the game.
I stayed until the final play last night. It took me an hour to get on I-10, but mainly because I made a wrong turn. Drove all night to get home at 4 am just so I could be at work at 630am. So people who leave in the 3rd Quarter so they can be home by 10 do it because it's no longer unique to witness a game. Anybody can do it, and without the headaches that used to be worth it for the experience of actually seeing the game.

1 free beer for everyone still present at the 8:00 mark of the third quarter.

Park smarter has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard. It is a collective traffic issue getting not only those that go to the game but the other 50-100k that goes to tailgate. Not everyone going to the game can park in Gonzales. Traffic is an abomination and it makes me want to leave early to get home. Sitting on campus to go 1 mile in over an hour plus another hour and a half home...and there are a lot of people that come from further out every week.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
I have been consistently attending games
since 1996. Figure it out!!!!
Don't tell me it's bad all around or you show your ignorance.
I take a 20 minute walk after the game having a good time talking about three game oh my boys and then am back in New Orleans 1 hour later. So what's the problem???
Take your issues elsewhere and not in this forum.

Many fans live 2-3 hours away. If I'm driving back I just can't wait 1-1 1/2 hours in traffic just to get out of town then face a 3 hour drive.
I really can't understand locals leaving early.

I have said this for years, nothing. I think most of the fans see the game as a social event and nothing more. When I was a kid you had ticket prices where Joe coonass could buy tickets and go to the game. Now u have to be well off to have season tickets in the lower bowl. So those seats are now mostly for people that go there to show their faces and leave early to beat the traffic. Just my $.02.

Truth is Les has sucked all excitement from LSU football.

There really is no excuse for how horrible the food is. This is south Louisiana and we have boiled meat sammiches, burnt fries and 3 day old popcorn.
