What would it take for LSU to become a relevant basketball school?

They obviously will never be the birthplace of the sport like Kansas. And they don't have the long term reverence of the sport of places like Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina.

LSU has had some great players - Pistol Pete, Shaq, Petit, Chris Jackson. Heck some of those are all timers.

But is there anything they can do to develop the type of team that competes year in and year out? Hit on an amazing coach? Upgrade the facilities? Develop some type of pipelines to high school kids?

Putting the money and resources into to it. The practice facility is great. But they need to double the recruiting budget, and hire a competent coach

Going back in time a little bit when my cousin moved down this way from North Carolina and got me to going to basketball games when Dale was probably about 2 years into his hiring. Really got mad at my cousin for awhile for turning me into a basketball fan because we didnt win a lot of games at first. Remember thinking that LSU is a football school and will never really be turned onto basketball but it took a salesman and a true motivator like Dale Brown to change that atmosphere and remember sitting in the Superdome watching LSU beat Wichita State to go to their first Final 4 and thinking that Brown had really done it. What LSU needs IMO is a good doesnt have to be great X and O coach but a true salesman and motivator and sell the program once again. I dont think Brady, Johnson or JOnes fit that mode.

Bruce Pearl, especially if he gets his pre-suspension mojo back. Bring him here and give him our average talent, he'd have the Deaf Dome rocking

Simple. Win.

LSU was a "basketball school" in the 80's and early 90's when they were at their pinnacle. Football was kind of in a up and down cycle and no one gave even the smallest of shits about baseball until the late 80's early 90's.

Was Florida a "basketball school" prior to Donovan? They have two NC banners hanging in this gym.

It's easier said than done, but the right hire at HC makes LSU a basketball school.

Who knows? What's the end game? Brady went to the tourney more than a few times, including a sweet 16 and final four and got fired 2 years later. Ever since then, I'm convinced we're just keeping a revolving door in it to just get various people a check, and aren't taking it at all seriously.

I can't believe Joe fricking Alleva is still here, let alone this dumpster fire of a basketball program.

It's incredibly sad. We keep the fire so hot in something like baseball, and a sport that could actually help build your national brand is an afterthought.

Absolutely. fricking. Depressing.

A consistent commitment to the sport by the administration that can overcome the apathy of the fanbase by building a solid foundation that ultimately wins their consistent support.

Hiring a coach that had 11 mostly mediocre years at UNT, even for that level, just because he was one of ours and everybody liked him and you are for whatever reason dependent on Collis Temple for advice on the basketball program, IMHO is not that type of commitment.

If and when an opportunity arises, I think it will take a young, hungry and energetic coach to start but the commitment has to go beyond that. The fanbase needs to be energized and motivated to buy in and support and help, the environment in the PMAC has to improve and we as a community have to care.

Florida did it at a football school with Donavan from Marshall. Donavon won two titles, went to three finals, four final fours and 7 elite 8's.

Their administration supported the basketball program and dragged the fan base with them.

It can be done. May have to have a sit down with Collis to do that. Ain't nobody now I think that has the sack for that.

LSU would support a really good coach & program, without a doubt.

Gymnastics & Baseball are prime examples.

I could care less about basketball, but LSUA coach? They are NAIA and ranked #1. Did not even have a program 3 years ago.

Throw the checkbook at Tom Izzo, coach always had his teams coached up no matter what. This LSU team does not lack talent, but lack coaching. Would be a perfect fit....IMO
