In football? I mean, the other three won national championships so yeah...the bar is kinda high.

Kelly is a mediocre coach who won a lot of games at ND because ND plays a cream puff schedule. It wasn’t hard to get 10 wins there. At LSU and in the SEC he’s been exposed. Another 8-4 or 9-3 should tell enough people that he’s a fraud.

LOL the kid literally predicted his own death on twitter an hour before the wind blew the scissor lift over. All the Brian Kelly sunshine pumpers in this thread are great. Bookmarking for after the Clemson game.

The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration reported that the University of Notre Dame should have taken steps to prevent the death of a 20-year-old student, who fell 39 feet from a scissor lift last fall. The agency has issued the $77,500 fine for six violations following the four-month investigation into the cause of Declan Sullivan's death.

Sullivan, who was filming a Notre Dame football practice from a scissor lift, was killed when the lift tipped over due to high winds. The commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor said that Notre Dame students employed as videographers had not been trained to operate the lifts beyond knowing how to lift and lower the machines. Additionally, she said the lifts should not have been in use the day Sullivan died due to a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service. Top wind gusts on Oct. 27 reached 53 mph, and the manufacturer of the scissor lift recommended the machine not be used in wind speeds exceeding 28 mph, she said.

Violations and fines for the university include a "knowing violation" along with a $55,000 fine for not fully training student videographers to operate the scissor lifts and for directing them to use the lifts despite the wind advisory, and five "serious violations" that carry a total of $22,500 in fines for the lack of training and issues specific to this lift. According to the report, the lift hadn't been inspected in more than a year and hadn't been serviced as required by the operator's manual. Also, the operator's manual was not stored in a weather-proof box on the lift, and some of the warning labels were missing, faded or weathered.

IOSHA is launching an educational program for schools that use lifts for athletics, band and other events.

Do you think many football coaches are heavy equipment experts?

It doesn't take a "heavy equipment expert" to know you shouldn't operate a scissor lift in a wind advisory.

Wish you geniuses would stop counting meaningless bowl games with opt outs and nothing on the line as “wins”

Surely you’d feel the same if Kelly lost those bowl games

Missing the playoffs this year would do it. There are zero excuses now. He himself even said that this is the "best" roster they've had in a long time.

I think it depends on the season and if its even less than 10 wins I think hes going to have to show how he's going to get a team in contention soon. Lets be real, we are losing alot after this season, QB, LB's upper classmen at multiple positions. If we just have 9 wins and he can't show how we are going to win next year, or the year after that, whose to say he doesn't get cut loose or shouldn't for that matter.

The coach of the greatest season ever got fired 2 seasons later.

Yeah, because he cratered the program, going .500 two years in a row, and generally being an embarrassment for LSU with his behavior.

Kelly hasn't done that, he's been running the program solidly. Brought in a Heisman winner at QB, and still retained the talented QB on the roster who now goes into his second season as a starter, after passing for over 4000 yds last year. His sins are that he hasn't won an opener yet, and hasn't made the playoffs yet. He's got some room, despite some of the ignorant fanbase wanting to run him off for "reasons".

Go worse than 8-4 this year (5-3 in the SEC). I think that's the minimum requirement to earn another season

The football program is finally a legitimate contender again. He's fine as long as it stays that way. I don't see it changing while he's in charge, but i would like for them to win a few nattys. Im not convinced he can do that yet.

No, he isn't. Not unless you're paying a $50M buyout. Nobody is paying that is he goes 9-3. He would have to go 6-6 for the boosters to even th8nk about paying up that much.

Not much. His contract is for 10 years, 95 Million. We’re stuck for a while.

He's already "earned" another season (and several after that) in terms of is contract. He's getting paid 90% of the remainder of his contract whether he coaches next season, or not.

The only question is would LSU and the big donors be willing to commit the $50+ Million it would take to buy him out PLUS the several million to buy out the staff PLUS the millions necessary to hire a new HC & Staff PLUS the millions necessary to buy a new roster?

Something tells me that ain't happening despite the requirements for retention by message board fans. Unless he leave on his own, BK is at LSU for at least another 2-3 years (including this season)
