re: What was the weak link on the 2003 National Championship team?

“weak” and “national championship” do not mesh. Happy 20th from this OU fan who was there live to witness it. I was 20 at time and did not know the overall impact it had on not just LSU but Louisianans as a whole because of the many years of mediocrity sans 1958.
Sooners had their chances despite being dominated all game it seemed. OU was driving late to try and tie it but to no avail. The LSU powerhouse we all know of today was officially born in January 2004.

Weak link is probably the wrong term, but... Mauck's turnover issues vs better teams.
And that's with all due respect for the guy, because he usually made plays late in games to overcome those earlier mistakes.

Jimbo's offense was super unimaginative (shocker, I know) but in his defense, Mauck couldn't really push the ball downfield.
Mauck still threw a lot of INTs. If I had to find a weakness it'd be that.

Mauck was a baller but could not go long.

Matt Mauck
fun fact:
Matt Mauck had a high completion percentage, higher QB rating, and only 1 fewer TD pass than Eli that year.

Without question it was Jack Hunt.

Shooooot, according to Jim Hawthorne, Jack Hunt was making plays all over the field. Even when he wasn’t in the game.

Driving? Four plays for 0 yards is not a drive.

Mauck is a dentist in Denver now. Fun fact.

The linebacker corps wasn’t that great. I don’t think any of them played any meaningful time in the NFL.

wrong. he was one of the best Qb's to wear an LSU uniform. he absolutely could pass downfield. 28 TD's a LSU record with JR at the time before burrow.

Field goal kicking was awful, 12-20 on field goals and missed 4 xps
I almost tried out as a walk on because of
How bad Chris Jackson was.
