Look at the roster. They have 4-5 pitchers that will get axed before Reid IMO

Every freshman is a stud until they are not. When will our fans learn they can’t just pencil Fr in to start?

Esp now if Watson & Dup are back. Bryce Jordan too, as well as Josh Smith. We have like 2 open spots, 1st & C. That’s if they don’t leave Hughes at SS, Smith to 3b & Slaughter to 1st.

He'll be a fourth year senior from a local high school. He'll likely graduate next May. He's a vocal leader in the dugout who's "been there."

Mainieri does not have a history of cutting those types of players.

Well yeah, but Reid has also proven he is not a difference maker.

Mainieri has to decide between the known and unknown.

Dont see how that's laughable... people forget Hilliard had a sub 1 era for a pretty good while before his arm just started to tire out. Hes a little guy and was asked to throw more pitches than ever before in his life and a TON of those were curve balls. With a year under his belt he will have better stamina next season. He already has better stuff when hes at his best and will be a higher draft pick than Walker. Plus with the whole long layoff thing for Walker they aren't gonna push him to throw over 100 innings next season.

And he hits LH, plays 2 inf positions, & was top 5 in SEC in OBP

I just don't see how we get the roaster to work if we keep Reid, Hughes, Broussard, Feduccia, etc.

This is the same board that constantly whines because every one of our players isn’t the build of Aaron judge. Hilliard has a nasty curve and walker doesn’t have a 98 mph fastball so naturally walker isn’t very good. Also you should know Greg Maddux sucked too because he couldn’t throw 97.

That's not his point. His point is that we know what Reid is as a player. Even though its an unknown, the freshman coming in have a much higher ceiling than Reid.

Which is what I said in my post a few above this. We know Reid won't be a big time player. Do you deny the chance for a much better player to come along in order to keep Reid on the roster?

I already know you'll side with Reid, but that's the explanation behind my statemtn.

I don’t think it’s crazy to say Hilliard is the only guy we can pencil in on the weekend right now.

Walker is coming off surgery & his stuff wasn’t great to begin with

Hess will be given a chance to start if he returns

Fontenot, Storz, Marceaux, labas

There will be some competition

Coomes
Bain
Webre
Jordan
Bush
Vietmeyer
Petersen
Moffit
Reese
Kodros
Nowak
Sanders

That's 12 that I can see gone before any of those on your list. All depends on how many pitchers we have coming in, but several of these Pitchers will be gone

He had sub 1 before he entered SEC play. Walker dominated SEC hitters consistently throughout his whole freshman year.

This is simply not true. It's easy to lose short term memory, but Walker spent many weeks out pitching both Lange and Poche. He had way less "bad" games than Hilliard did.

SEC teams knows how to hit that offspeed stuff, it's just a matter of getting underneath it. Walker has more fastball movement to compliment his offspeed stuff. Without future injuries, most people will predict Walker gets drafted higher.

I'd rather him just go dominate from the bullpen rather than watch him suffer as a starter

No one said Walker sucks. Just that Hilliard is better. I expect both to start a lot of games for us next year. In fact I said in another thread I think our weekend rotation on opening weekend is Peterson, Hilliard, and Walker. There will definitely be some shuffling as there are plenty of pitchers wait to take the job if one struggles and I wouldn't count out Gilbert getting another shot. I dont think Maineiri will hesitate to move Peterson back to the pen if he shows any signs of not being able to start in nonconference play either

That’s great, but this isn’t fantasy baseball or a video game. Emotion & loyalty are involved. Kid has given 3 years to the program. He has a spot if he wants it

I think Hughes makes a big improvement at the plate next year. We saw what he is capable of against NWST in the regional.

Broussard was also one of our hottest hitters before he got hurt.

I think Feduccia likely signs.

Hilliard was phenomenal this season but I think you’re forgetting how good Walker was. He was the most consistent pitcher last year. Considering who the other 2 were that’s a pretty big compliment.
