I believe that a poor reputation with quarterback play is responsible for this, and lack of direction in the players they recruit is the reason for poor quarterback play. Pedigree is very important IMHO. My favorite LSU QB of all time is Bert Jones. Bert's father Dub Jones was an NFL player and NFL coach. Archie Manning's sons have done pretty well. And what about John Elway? Decide what you want in a QB. Don't recruit Pro and Dual and then leftys and rightys in the same class.

I think that we can’t develop a quarterback is not true .
I think we had poor evaluations of guys that had some skills,
but were never able to grasp the mental side. Jordan Jefferson
lit it up in drill, but couldn’t perform in live action which applies
to allmost all of our QB’s. Met played well and Etling did about
as well as you could expect with limited tools.

Idiotic coaches. That's the answer.

Actually, we do get highly ranked quarterbacks...some don't pan out, but others do pretty damn well. Remember, we had a quarterback picked 1st overall in the NFL draft a while back. I think a lot of the impression that we are so terrible at the QB position is sparked by shite talkers on message boards just like this one.

After Jamarcus and Flynn, our best QB has been Zach Mettenberger, who was a transfer like Etling, prolly our second best since then.

Needless to say our problem recruiting good QB prospects
remains with yet another transfer probably our next starter, again....

We literally just got two top prospects committed for the next two years. Already have two highly ranked prospects in their second years. Not to mention now having the best transfer QB on the market.

It all started with Perriloux getting axed along with another top prospect going pro in baseball.

Outside of Mett and Etling, our QBs haven’t either developed or go brain dead during in-game situations.

It has nothing to with recruiting top talent. It’s developing top talent. Falls mostly on coaching IMO.

LSU has earned a reputation for not developing QBs and this state hasn’t produced any so it’s harder to attract an out-of-state prospect when you have that reputation.

Considering the sample size and potential it has to do more with the former coach not playing to the QBs strength. Will be interesting to see how the new regime handles the position.

Zak Prescott starts for the Cowboys.

The kid who went to Ole Miss, and transferred to Michigan.

Both are Louisiana products LSU whiffed on.

Prescott wasn’t a major prospect coming out of HS. Shea Patterson did not grow up in Louisiana and wasn’t an LSU fan as a boy.

All i know is there has been alot of bad recruiting at that position. Take Anthony Jennings and B Harris. Two guys that were average at everything they do. I call them Vanilla Dual Threats. Can kinda throw the ball and kinda run the ball. Look at the high school tapes they weren’t “Wow” guys. Then the coaches dont coach them up when they get here. Its not just one thing. You can’t teach accuracy or athleticism. Just because a guy is ranked high doesnt mean he is a great QB, can he make all the throws? Will he stand in the pocket and deliver a strike with a LB about to decapitate him?Nowadays with CBs getting taller and faster and LBs becoming Swiss Army knives you have to be able to thread a needle. I dont remember the year or care to look it up, but recently against Bama we had receivers open deep for huge plays and missed them. Who knows, maybe all these new assistants will make a difference.

We’ve gotten highly recruited players at the position. None of them have been developed.

Jordan Jefferson had exactly one offer... LSU's.

Development happens less than people think. Most OC's have some that did and some that didn't. A lot of good QB's are good as a Freshman. A lot of bad QB's never improve from their fresman year.

LSU had a run heavy scheme and passing always took a back seat. That being said, a lot of our QBs were actually highly rated prospects. It seems they were just not developed properly.

Nice cherry pick there. Why don’t you go down the rankings/offer list of the other guys we’ve had over the past 10 years for me?
