Tune in to BTN network. Wall-to-wall DiNardo.

He did leave a pretty decent amount of talent for Saban.

Kind of a myth. Were there talented players? Yes. Were there only like 68 on scholarship? Yes. Were those players so traumatized by Dinardo losing his mind that Saban brought in a psychologist? yes.

He did bring Lou yepper. The best linebacker coach in history. Even had his own book. But it didn't work because it takes six years to learn his system.

oh man, this brings back some bad memories. Dam Lou Tepper.

Post Curley, Joe Dean couldn't get Pat Sullivan out of his buyout from TCU of all places. DiNardo either. Gerry dealt with that in his own and was sued iirc.

Joe Dean's next move was to hire himself as head football coach. Only an extra $350 a month in salary needed.

Lol. No. Where did you get 68?

Look at the 2001 SEC championship team and count how many key players and starters were Dinardo recruits. He was a good coach. He made a huge misstep with the Tepper hire.

That 98 team wasn’t the fault of Dinardo, but a few bad apples. There is a reason why the bottom fell out and we were losing to inferior teams and or weren’t covering the spread.

Let’s just say there were a few guys who were not NFL caliber, but still wanted to get paid and saw those games as their opportunity.

I remember Vandy refused to let us wear our white jerseys at home after we hired Dinardo. So we had a "white out" in Tiger Stadium and most everyone wore white shirts... and then the rains came.

Kevin Faulk was headed to Florida. But he couldn’t resist the recruiting and hype.

Well, maybe that, but from his own mouth, it had more to do with his baby being born right after his visit to Florida and him not wanting to be apart from her.

Dinardo was more worried about his budding commercial acting job and his restaurant than coaching that last year for sure.

Dinardo wasn't a bad coach, and he was a pretty good recruiter. The difference between Hallman and him was night and day.

I believe the problem with Dinardo was that he began to believe he could do no wrong here.

That was a HUGE get and HUGE turning point in the program to this day.

Yep...made it "cool" for in-state players to stay and play for LSU.

Gerry was very insecure. At a Gridiron meeting at the beginning of his last season he was asked why he had not hired Rich Rodriguez, who was a hot name back then, to fix the offense. He had promoted Wide Receiver coach Bob McConnell instead. His answer was that he did not want a quick fix but a permanent solution. We all looked around at each other in amazement. A quick fix was the only thing that could have saved his job. The real reason, which he later told me, was that he was afraid that if he brought Rodriguez in it would be too easy to fire Gerry and promote Rodriguez. He got fired anyway.

I had never heard this, but it seems likely. especially their recruiting at the time. ike hilliard, ernie badeaux, etc. I always pegged him for notre dame back then, but I remember weather being in our favor. I read a story about his recruitment and he stepped off the plane into cold temps and snow. he wasn't a fan. that was the first class that I began following recruiting. I remember faulk being on the cover of forrest davis and jeff whittaker recruiting mags. he was larger than life. my all time favorite tiger.
