That's a good point, but I suppose it's only fair to compare their bodies of work regarding every aspect. All in all Alleva has shown he's not afraid to go out and at least attempt to hire the best, so I don't see why some of you have no faith he couldn't go out and hire a big name coach to take the reigns of what's probably a top 5 coaching destination

There are no more ads on our facilities under alleva's tenure than skip's so that doesn't really make any sense either

Also, isn't one of a SEC Athletic Director's biggest jobs to help the football coach in any way they need?
LSU has the highest paid group of assistants in the country. Alleva stays out of Miles' way and gives him everything he wants.

Maybe not the discussion the original poster meant but this guy is making all of you look bad. I am no fan of our new AD either, he is also a wimp about scheduling but Alleva is embarrassing. He cannot open his mouth without whining about having to play Florida. I always had LSU as my backup SEC team but the LSU fans I know don't want a watered down schedule. Part of my respect was you guys could man-up to any team and played a good OOC schedule to go with the SEC regulars, but this crying is pathetic.
The Top 6 teams, historically, were all picked to have a strong rival from the other division each year. Yours is no worse than the others, although TN has fallen off in the past several years. As a CFB fan, I look forward to the LSU FU game every season, mark it on my calendar and hope the UGA game doesn't overlap it. Somebody tell the guy to shut-up and play, you should be proud to have games everyone looks forward to watching. We all certainly have to watch enough mis-matches against cupcakes.

He butchered baseball hires at Duke although it was a low priority. He did a solid job with the non-revenue hires, and I know he had a lot of experience working with both lacrosse teams and the field hockey squad. It makes his reaction to Pressler and the lacrosse team even more disappointing.
ETA: His football hires were Carl Franks, Ted Roof, and David Cutcliffe. Very mixed bag.

He's pointing out facts. When one of your division rivals has an easier path to the the SECCG every year, it's not whining to want to level the playing field.

If Bama's permanent opponent had been Georgia over the past decade, I don't think Alleva would be as upset. But for anyone to call the current scheduling rotation as "fair" is ridiculous. Obviously we are going to line up and play Florida every year because we have to, but when Bama's schedule comes out every year and they almost never get Florida or Georgia, it gets a little old.

Right, But hey, I would say that is equivalent to Bertman butchering our baseball program. Foley at Florida has screwed up with hires, as has Jeff Long. It happens.

well said.

I was too young when this happened to know all the details and dynamics, but that has to be one of the most intense and difficult situations an AD has ever faced.

Well Cutcliffe is the best hire in Duke's history

Precisely. I would like to see SOS from 2000-present on all SEC teams.

Spurrier and Wallace Wade aren't bad, either

...touche
Duke's football stadium probably hasn't seen any facility enhancements since Spurrier's days

I believe the urinal troughs were taken out in 2008.
I am dead serious.

I guess the way he botched the lacrosse team situation at Duke seemed to jaundice my view of the way he handled the JJ reinstatement. Aleva made the statement that JJ was rejoining the team when his charges were lessened, not Miles. To me it was like Les had no say in the situation, he was forced to take JJ back.

More money, less value. Sort of like most commercial enterprises in the U.S.

Joe Alleva was given the keys to a Ferrari, and hasn't wrecked it.
I was furious when he was hired, and it had everything to do with how he handled the Lacrosse thing at Duke. Those kids would likely be in jail right now had their parents not been people of means.
I've tried to get over it under the theory that I wouldn't want my entire lifetime judged by my worst decision, and to some degree, that's worked....I no longer have a personal disdain for him. But all in all, I'll stick my original thought. He's just not screwed anything up.

At the end of the day, what more could you ask for as a fan?
His tenure at Duke is completely separate from his tenure at LSU at this point. He's been here long enough that his time at LSU should stand on its own merits.
He gets a lot of criticism from people for doing what needs to be done the keep LSU competitive financially. And a lot of what gets thrown at his feet was started under the anointed Bertman, who gets all of his love as an AD from his success as a baseball coach.
All the issues with the SEC are just people expecting too much. He's one voice amongst 14.

Bertman was also a very good AD. He had to clean up a lot of the mess that Joe Dean left. Skip made some unpopular decisions, especially as it pertains to ticket prices and such, but he left LSU much better than he found it.

Well, he helped ruin the lives of a bunch of lacrosse players at his last stop.
Other than that? I got nothing.

He has successfully made us look like whiny little b**ches for having to play Florida every year.
