We did this quite a bit last season to 1. Make the defense show their coverage and 2. Force mismatches.

State was playing 3 high safeties and walking one down in the box on the snap. Problem was, Brennan often didn’t know which one was coming down causing him hesitate on the quick throws over the middle. When Gilbert was split out it was usually in the slot. This allowed state to disguise the free safety until the snap.

This would have been an easy way for Ensminger to make the reads a little easier for Brennan.

We didn't motion the back in and out of the backfield either to make them show their coverage. We also didn't have the underneath short little check down. Those things were key to last year's success. Can't understand why we would go away from that.

Gilbert was often in the slot. Emery too.

Last year we split Moss and CEH outside the numbers. I don’t recall seeing Emery split out wide. I believe Gilbert was out wide 1 or 2 times, but it didn’t seem like it was often.

We had a ton of success doing this last year, particularly on 3rd and short.

Damn it man, do you guys even watch the game? They split Arik Gilbert out multiple plays. Also, sent the back out of backfield several times.

The LOS is the 24/25 yard line. Emery runs his route to the 30.

Oh and this was on the Brennan, hit arm pick.

Clyde was a really special back. And you will see plenty of Gilbert out wide.

Like I said, I saw Gilbert our wide a handful of times, but not in the same way we used Moss last year to make the defense declare.

And I’m not talking about running the RB out to the slot. I’m talking about splitting him out wide to take the safety/backer out the middle of the field.

I recall once when the RB was split out wide, and it was a designed bubble screen to Davis-price. I could have missed Emery our wide a couple more times. He’s not quite as noticeable as CEH.

Curry was split out, too. I think you guys just want to believe the offense was different.

He’s not saying that he wasn’t open. He’s saying it wasn’t a short throw.

Which it was

Look at the second LSU offensive play from scrimmage.
